Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Thanalorian Blade.
Featured cards
Thanalorian Blade is an Earth monster that costs 6 mana. It starts with opportunity. It learns execute at level 2, lookout at level 3, and trample at level 6. I actually have this card at level 3, and it's one of the current epic cards available in the Glint shop. Unfortunately, my summoners in modern only allow me to use the card up to level 2, though. So I can't use the lookout ability.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Stampede and High Five. This means that only 5 monsters can be used, and monsters with trample ability continue attacking until a monster doesn't die. There is also 16 mana available, and I can use fire, earth, death, or dragon splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Underboss Fabino | 5 | Summoner | +2 attack or Poison |
Halfling Refugee | 1 | 1st | Weary |
Thanalorian Blade | 6 | 2nd | Opportunity and Execute |
Halaran Huntress | 4 | 3rd | Flying and Charge |
Total Mana: | 16 |
I use Underboss Fabino for the +2 melee. In this fight, I have three monsters due to the low mana cap. Halfling Refugee is my tank due to its low mana cost and it has decent stats. Thanalorian Blade is my damage dealer, and Halaran Huntress is an extra melee monster that can attack from anywhere. My melee damage increase will go on my backline melee monsters.
My strategy is to increase the melee monsters on my side and use them to deal damage against my opponent. Halfling is there just to soak up some damage while I deal damage. My main damage will still be Thanalorian Blade because of execute and opportunity. It makes it an amazing damage dealer against when my opponent does not have taunt.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent has very low health monsters in the back, and my Thanalorian Blade will wipe them out fast if I don't miss. I am also glad that the lowest health monster is the healer because that healer is annoying to deal with. The lower melee damage is also annoying, but it won't affect the result once the healer is dead.
Round 3
My opponent lost two monster and I have lost none. There is no chance for my opponent anymore in this fight due to my speed advantage.
I ended up winning this match later that round as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. My melee monsters did a great job of dealing damage and the rest of my monsters did their job. Thanalorian Blade was such a great monster as it killed off the backline healer before it could heal any monsters. This made the fight easier. The only downside was that monster with demoralize as it decreased my melee attack. I think the choice to increase the melee damage for the backline monsters was the best choice. It allows them to continue attacking without any worries of taking damage unless there are sneak or opportunity monsters. In fact, I think it might be a good idea to get a taunt monster out there. I'll have to see if there any taunt monsters that I can use in the future to make this type of lineup even more powerful.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
