Hello! This post is for the second entry of this week's Battle Mage Secrets, which is Shades of Gray. Shades of Gray is the newest ruleset added recently, and you could only use Neutral cards. For this post's battle, we have a Wild Silver Tournament battle where both players submit the lineup with the same summoner.
Shades of Gray
Only Neutral Units may be used in battles.
- Summoners are unaffected by this rule. (Or else we only play Lux Vega...)
Again, with the ruleset Shades of Gray, you are highly limited to only neutral units in your lineup, and not the summoners. With other rulesets that restricts your cards like Odd Ones Out, it is going to be hard to find good units. You should probably choose the stronger Neutral units in your lineup that is possible, and also use some strong summoners.
Battle Info
Rank: Wild Silver
Avaliable Type: Fire, Life, Death
Mana: 55
Shades of Gray: Only Neutral Units may be used in battles.
For this battle, we do not have a lot to say as we have only 1 ruleset which is Shades of Gray. It also does not have any other rulesets, and the mana limit is high to use some strong units. Fire, Life, Death summoners are also available.
My Lineup
Summoner: Lorkus. For the Summoner, I picked Lorkus. I used level 1 version of this card which could put me in a disadvantage, but it has a strong ability by giving +1 melee and +1 magic as well as Life Leech and Affliction. The high mana limit also suits this summoner nicely with some other strong units.
First position: Ulundin Overseer. For the tank, I picked Ulundin Overseer which costs 11 mana. It is a very solid choice in high mana battle, because of the high health as well as the Flank ability that gives the unit in the second position Reach when this unit is in the first position.
Second position: Mantaroth. At the second position, I went with Mantaroth. It has 3 melee attack, 3 armor, Shield(50% less damage against melee and ranged) and Armored Strike(Additional melee attack using armor). It is a really strong Rebellion card and I also gave Life Leech because it has the double attack with armor. Being in the second position also allows Mantaroth to keep its armor until it is in the first position.
Third position: Venka the Vile. Another very powerful card, Venka the Vile costs 7 mana and has the Charge ability that allows to attack from anywhere, with the Piercing ability. The +1 melee from Lorkus will make Venka have a total of 5 melee attack.
Fourth position: Sand Worm. Sand Worm is another strong unit that has base 5 melee attack, though it has 6 health for 9 mana. The Sneak ability makes Sand Worm target the back unit of the enemy. It is strong but a fragile unit.
Fifth position: Dumacke Orc. At the 5th position, Dumacke Orc is there mostly to soak Opportunity attack. It has 1 health so against magic, it is very weak in a normal game. But, it could be good in certain rulesets like No Magic.
Last position: Clockwork Aide. At the last, we have Clockwork Aide which is mostly a support unit with the Swiftness ability(+1 speed to all friendly units). It could also soak through Snipe and Sneak attacks, but same with Dumacke Orc, it is weak against magic.
Battle Link: HERE
Round 1
The enemy monsters were revealed and they also went with Obsidian. They also used Ulundin Overseer, Venka, Clockwork Aide but they used Moxian Rebel to give it magic attack, while I focused more on the melee units.
After exchanging some blows, I was able to take down their Taunt unit, and they took down my Ulundin Overseer at the end of this round, so we both had 5 units left.
Round 2
Round 2 started and although Mantaroth is weak against magic attackers, Venka was not able to gain health from Life Leech because it hit Armor, and Sand Worm was targetting their Venka with its strong 6 melee attack.
Round 3
At Round 3, we mostly exchanged some blows. Sand Worm took down their Venka, while their magic units countered Mantaroth. We both had 4 units left.
Round 4~5
Venka and Sand Worm each took down one unit, and the game seemed to be in my side as they only had 2 unit left that had much less attackers.
Round 6
Venka and Sand Worm took down their last unit, Clockwork Aide. GG!
Thoughts about this battle
Sand Worm and Venka's placement, as well as how each player gave the Life Leech's difference was able to win this game for me, although Dumacke Orc was not able to do anything in this game.
Thanks!
