Will be interested to hear your thoughts about volunteering. When I read the volunteer package, I thought it was quite a good deal - lots of learning and experience and time to enjoy being in Guatemala, also time-bounded.
I have to admit, I was quite insistent when I interviewed @buttcoins about all the details. I have seen this model "not work" too many times. But eventually I was convinced that he had found a way to make it work, and as a side benefit to all the exciting Hive things, we might be able to learn something about social organization!
I agree. We tend to stay away from volunteering as exploitative (and still costly in terms of organisation and support), but I've worked in many places where the volunteers were marvellous and volunteering was an essential part of their life.
