I do like the list of stuff HiveBuzz lists on its "Tour" page as a list of "Achievements" to unlock. It is a deep, itemised checklist that goes all the way to being a witness (if you want to be!) , but is one of the most in depth and clear ways to chip away at the elephant that is hive, one piece at a time.
