I went home last two weeks for my three weeks holiday. Despite the fear of my mom's never-ending list of errands and overwhelming household chores, I always cherish the opportunity to be with my family. Going home, My intention was simple: to unwind from work stress and the responsibilities of staying alone. I eagerly wrapped up all pending work and orders before setting off, eagerly anticipating a three-week relaxation tagged "eat, sleep, watch TV, and repeat" haha.
Unfortunately, not every plan would go as planned, some plans are just too unrealistic like mine.
Still trying to survive my mum's annoying errands and house chores, I received a phone call last week Friday from my friend which totally distrusts my plan. She asked me to make a pink dress for her for a wedding she was invited to. Despite my reluctance, I couldn't turn down a friend in need.
I have no machine at home since I already took mine to my place, so I needed a workspace and materials.
I begged my mum to help me get the fabric and other materials I needed since she was going to the market. I told her to get a pink crepe fabric and a matching plain organza. she got the pink crepe and I love it, but she decided that a pattern organza would be nice since she was unable to get a matching plain organza. I don’t like the organza pattern, it looks ugly to me but I had no other option than to use it, i couldn’t complain and was too lazy to get another organza.
After I got the materials, I asked a tailor friend of mine if I could use his machine and workspace. His shop is quite far from my place, so I had planned to finish it in a day but I was unable to due to some unforeseen circumstances that came up, I used 2 days to make this dress. I spent approximately 5.5hours on the first day and approximately 3 hours on the second day, so the total hours spent on this dress is 9 hours apparently on sewing excluding drafting and cutting
This dress is not that hard to make, only that it was a little time-consuming because I had to sew it with a full lining, aside from that it was pretty easy.
Without further ado, let's delve into the process of bringing to life this exquisite pink wedding guest dress.
Step one cutting:
My boss once advised me to always cut larger patterns first, so I started by cutting the skirt of the dress.
the back pieces of the skirt
the front pieces of the skirt
Then I cut the upper part
the front
The back
I cut the sleeves
And I also cut their linings respectively
Step two: sewing
I sew all the front pieces together and top stitch to create boning cases.
I see the back pieces too and topstitch
I did the same for the lining without topstitching. Then I join the shoulders of the front and back together.
The main fabric
the lining
For the skirt, I sew the front piece with pleats
I joined the back piece together
Then I joined all the skirt pieces together with the lining.
I then insert boning into the casing I made in the top and I sew the top and skirt together
the inside of the dress
I sewed the sleeve with a French seam since it is an organza.
I fold the hem of the sleeves
Then I sewed the sleeves to the dress and voila, I'm done.
I ironed it and did the necessary finishing.
Here is the final result ✨
