Creating something nice always fills me with joy and excitement. Seeing that I worked with my hands and it turned out really beautiful makes me happy!
Recently I decided to challenge myself by making a hat from scratch.
I have always been focused on making dresses as I could, female dresses precisely, I haven't learnt how to do male. So I decided to do something new, which was making a hat!
My spark of inspiration
Yes, something moved me to want to make a hat for myself. I was browsing on Pinterest when I stumbled with stunning handmade hats that quickly caught my eye. The outfits the wore suits very well with the hat so I decided to make it too!
Since I hadn't done it before, I needed a little guide to be able to do it well. I was very enthusiastic about the whole thing so I got these materials ready:
- A pattern paper
- My desired fabric
- Lining
- Pattern facing (Paper gum)
- My scissors
- My sewing machine was ready and well threaded
Crafting
Next I consulted YouTube for pattern crafting and I found this video below:
I followed strictly the pattern set in the video and crafted mine out.
According to the video, the hat has three parts. The top panel, the center panel and the down panel.
So first was to cut the pattern for the top panel which is like a circle. Ten the middle and the down panel using the measurements guide from the video!
Using the pattern paper, i placed it on my fabric and cut it out. I also cut the lining for them
Next was to gum the pattern facing (paper gum) to it, this is to ensure firmness!
After cutting it was time to sew. First I used the lining to sew on the down panel, the brim of the hat.
I did same for the other parts of the hat too
After ironing, I joined the top panel to the middle panel and this is what I got below:
At this point I was happy to see it becoming what I want to make, I was happy to continue it!
Next I sewed the down panel to it:
After this, basically I was done.
It was good, it's a hat! โจ, though it might not perfect but I was super happy that my first attempt was as good as this
Since we had a special event we had to attend, I made dresses for 3 of my siblings including my own, and I'm glad it turned out well, I had little time making the dresses but I'm glad I was able to accomplish it. And here we are:
Something significant is that male dress I did for my stepbrother in the above picture, I didn't know I'll get it, it was just a new attempt of making male pant and jacket. I only did female dresses!
This picture above is with me and my little sis, she always love it when I make dresses for her and they fit her so well! ๐น
So that was how wore our dresses to the special event. It was heartwarming to see the dresses made with my hands being worn perfectly! I thank God for everything he helps me to achieve!
Thank you for your time here so far...๐ค
