Most likely I'm going to make it to the Guinness Book of World Records, as no one in the history of humanity has ever performed a head transplant, but it's not official yet, so don't tell anyone.
Maybe a couple of you remember Helena. She was born in June 2022 and I introduced her to you in this post. Helena was born out of necessity and was named Helena by chance, due to the name on her T-shirt.
Helena is my scarecrow lady, who is sitting on my balcony ever since she was born and has the simple job of scaring the pigeons off, to avoid them 💩 💩 💩 all over my balcony. My neighbor was feeding the pigeons, despite being forbidden by law and all the birds found their way to my balcony and decorated by ledge with 💩.
When she was born, I wasn't sure she's going to be able to do the job. I was afraid she would become friends with the pigeons and they would 💩 all over her, so basically it was a gamble. But creating Helena was a challenge too as I've never mad a scarecrow before, from scratch, so it was also a lot of fun.
It's been two and a half years since then and I'm proud to announce that there's no 💩 on Helena! So she did the job perfectly, there are no pigeons on the balcony either, but, as there's always a but, time and the weather did huge damages on her.
This is how the poor lady was looking before this week.
The color of her hair was long gone, her lipstick and makeup was also gone, but worse than that, her skin got badly damaged, due to the strong sunlight. So this was the reason I decided to perform a head transplant on her.
So I took a plate and drew her head and neck.
Unfortunately I broke my own rule, didn't iron the canvas before cutting it out and instead of a round head, I got something else, that doctors call deformed head. Then came the real challenge, of drawing the eyes, lips and eyebrows. Last time I only did two lines instead of the the eyebrows, but this time I said the lady deserves a proper face.
Last time I wasn't happy with her lips, I waned fuller lips. Not because I'm a fan of botox, o whatever ladies are ruining their health with these days, but because her lips were poorly colored. So this time I decided to do a proper embroidery on her lips, the the result is far from what I wanted.
They say history has the habit of repeating itself and it prove to be true this time as well. After doing her lips, I wasn't satisfied with the result at all, but I asked myself, just like last time, what I am creating here? A beauty queen or a scarecrow? As the two are totally different things. So I've managed to convince myself that not perfect is ok in this case.
As you can see, she has proper eyebrows now and makeup as well. The head is a proper headache if I look at it, the drawing and the embroidery is not far from it as I don't like it at all, and even though I said it's ok to be ugly as it's a scarecrow lady, she's ugly not because I wanted her to be ugly, but because I did a crappy job. I'm not proud of it at all.
She looks a bit different here, but still terrible.
Could have corrected the shape of her head while sewing the two sides together, but I didn't.
Attaching her head to the body was another challenge. The canvas making her body was damaged too, so the only way to hold the body together was to sew the head to the T-shirt and obviously this wasn't expected and the size of the neck and the head was not a match. So I had to improvise and it does not look good.
Now poor Helena sits on the balcony again, even though it's -10°C.
She has a new head, which is uglier than the first one. I could have done a nicer job, but I suppose I lost focus. In any case, Helena is not going to resist much, maybe one summer and she'll be done after that. So I suppose I can start designing the next one. Let's see how the next scarecrow is going to be called.
