The Joy In The Little || Crochet Scrunchie

Lately I have been making a lot of headpieces and it has given me the space to try somethings, experiment some things, learn and unlearn and so far it's going pretty well. Recently I had the honors of making the most ruffled scrunchie I've ever made. But this is how it all started.

A friend of mine reached out. Said he wanted to get something for his girl but didn't know what to get exactly. This was a bit tricky because he wanted to surprise her and since it's a surprise I couldn't get her body measurements and he had Zero clue about it too so we decided to opt for a scrunchie and one other piece once we agreed that it'll go well we went into other details.

He wanted something babyish so we did pink in two shades. I went with acrylic yarn. I didn't want it to be stiff so I used a bigger hook size. The inspo he sent me was something I've got into making the scrunchie. This was my first time trying it out actually.

I knew that “oh this is how scrunchies are made” but i've never picked up a hook to try it out more like test out the pattern in my head so this order was actually exciting. I was finally going to try out what has been in my head.

I didn't do the regular scrunchie pattern with a hair tie since she's a dread head and I haven't seen pictures of her either. I dint want to make something that wouldn't serve any purpose once it reaches her hand.

I thought it would take way longer than it actually did but it was surprisingly one of the best few hours I've spent on a project. I just kept going and turning till I realised I almost made either too big and not what they ordered so I had to hold my horses and work on the detailing for the edges of the scrunchie so it doesn't look basic.

In the process he was so nervous and was asking what the progress was. Not because of the piece itself I guess getting with someone new does that. Making this felt like I was somehow contributing to their relationship. A little smile here and there. I can't wait to finish the second piece and see her reaction to everything.

For the girlie's I think scrunchie is very practical. Working on this gave me a ton of ideas for the next scrunchies I'll be doing and I can't wait to put all of them into work.

Reading this post might be cringe for some people “it's just one scrunchie what's the fuss about” I don't think my happiness is from the order itself yeah. Like because he made it naaaaaa. I'm happy because of why it was made and to hone. The little details are sometimes more exciting. This scrunchie may be small, but it carries the same care and detail as any big crochet piece.
