Hello everyone, so I’ve been wanting to make a mesh shrug for a while but I’ve been always postponing. With a beach event coming off in some days, I had some unknown energy from “nobody knows where” to make this shrug within 10 hours including breaks. I don’t know for other crocheters but I have so many projects that I want to do for myself but only do them when I find an event or occasion I could actually wear them too.
I already have so many yarns available so I just chose this color which isn’t green and isnt blue. I’m not sure if that’s what is called teal but let me know if I’m right.
The materials I used were:
- 50g balls of yarn
- 1.60mm crochet hook
- measuring tape
- a pair of scissors
I started by making a 16 inches long chain which is half my bust. The shurg will only occupy the bust so the measurement would mostly revolve around the bust. I used a size small measurement for this because I am a size small. You’d have to check your measurement and use so the shrug doesn’t become too lose or too tight on you when you’re done.
I now started with the mesh. I just chained 4 stitches and made a double crochet in the fourth stitch. I didnt want them too big or too small but if you want yours biggers, you can increase the number of chains and if you want them smaller you can decrease the number of chains too.
I went ahead to make the front and the back. Initially, there was no difference between the upper part and the lower part. The shoulder part also looked too big for a size small so I used a slip stitch to reduce the gap at the shoulder side. I could now see the difference as the lower part was wider than the shoulder part.Also whiles joining the front and back together, I left some space at the armhole to make the sleeves.
I now made the sleeves at the armhole space. The sleeves were about 21 inches long because that was my preference. You can also choose to make yours shorter or longer. I finished and was so excited.
The result.
The beach event is about a week from now but I don’t think I can wait.
I’m definitely going to wear this to the beach before the event. Who knows it might inspire me to make another project for the beach event.
