I Had A Bad Crochet Day - Let’s Blame The Yarn

in NeedleWorkMonday10 months ago
Since I started crocheting for about so many years now, I have never tried mini projects. If you’ve been following my sewing journey you’d realize how I take up only challenging activities.Normally you are expected to learn from the easiest to the most difficult right? That’s not the case for me,I start with the most difficult(which I find weird sometimes). I’ve crocheted so many dresses, tops, skirts,I could go on and on but never tried the mini projects like headband, bows , yes that’s strange right.Anyway I now understand why I never make these mini projects. They don’t make me as excited as my normal and challenging projects do.

I wanted to make a bow clip for my 6 year old niece as a gift for braiding with hair extensions for the first time.

The materials I used were:

  • 50g blue yarn
  • a pair of scissors
  • 1.60mm hook
  • sewing needle(improvising)
  • hair clip
  • Pearls

I started by making a chain twice the length of the hair clip which felt like a mistake. I made two chains at the end and worked backwards to the other end of the chain using double crochets.I then did another row of double crochets making a total of 2 double crochet rows.Looking at it, it looked okay so i just joined the ends together using a slip stitch.

Here,I felt my eyes were deceiving me as it didn’t really look so nice as I wanted to so I untied it and added another row of double crochets.I now cut a piece of yarn and tied the middle.

At this point, everything looked okay for me so I started a new chain just like how I did in the beginning but this time, at the beginning of the second row,I increased by putting two double crochets in the first and last stitches.I repeated the same for the third row too.Just like the first part, I tied this one too at the middle.I now put the two together and tied them together to form the bow.

At this point,it didn’t look too nice or let me say as I expected but I felt maybe the result would look better.I now added the pearls to the bow using the sewing needle and then attached the clip to the back of the bow.

The result

Throughout this project I wasnt even excited. On a normal crochet day, I would be excited and very hyped to finish just so I can see the result but today was different.Anyway I think it doesnt look nice even after trying it on and I’m still figuring out why.We know children don’t lie so I know if it’s really isn’t nice my niece would definitely call me out on it.Today was a bad crochet day and I’m definitely not going to try any of these mini crochet projects again.Thank you for your time and I would like to know if you’ve ever experienced bad needlework days.

Hello thank you for sharing your experience and how you feel about this project, not always things go as expected and that helps us to learn from our mistakes. However, you are an excellent crocheter and all your garments look beautiful. Keep trying dear.

Thank you, this means so much to me☺️

Don't give up easily on making small projects like this one dear. ☺️ Even if it didn't look the way you had expected, you still have to try it again. It was still your first time doing this bow, wasn't it? Maybe you had made different wearables before but then this one is different also. I know that you had some ideas coming on your mind what to do next time if you will do it again. I know that you make it more beautiful.🥰

Okay dear,
Thank you for the encouragement 🥹🥰

From your description, one would think you made something terrible. However, it's not so bad.

Perhaps it wasn't up to the standard you had in mind.

No it wasn’t 😞

It still came out looking beautiful, even if it didn't come out the way you wanted but it looks pretty and suits your hair.

Thank you ☺️

You did a nice job and don't need to be sad about it, your niece will definitely love it.

I did?🥺
Thank youuu

The outcome of it is not that bad as you think, it coming out beautiful and you don't need to be sad about it and your niece will be happy about it, well done dear

🥹🥹thank you

"children don't lie"

Let me use the eyes of a child to rate you... It's not fine 😅

Don't mind me, you did a good job👏👏👏

Haha😂😂

Thank you.

You're most welcome dear🥰

I think it’s okay. And she probably will be so excited about getting it she wouldn’t have anything bad to say

Thank you🥹

Well, you people are using too many crochet work to oppress me daily. Sometime what we make do not often appeal to us but so long as they are useful for our loved ones we have to keep doing them. Well done dear.

The master seamstress is talking about oppression ?🤣

Thank you☺️

My late ma was a master with crotchet
I could make some work then as well until i eventually lost the talent and finding it is quite hard

Oh sorry about her.

You are surely a woman of many talents

Unlike you, I began my crocheting journey with mini projects and trying challenging ones has become so challenging till date..lol

This is nice and you don't have to be sad about the turn out..we keep learning from our mistakes
But I say this.. you are too good with what you do
Keep it up
