Rescuing Mammillaria Elongata

in Picture A Daylast year

Hello everybody,

Last week my son and grandson transferred to the 3rd house just with in our lot. We have 3 tiny houses in our vicinity. The first one is a native house built using light materials for our temporary shelter while building our concrete tiny house, the 2nd house.

When we occupied the 2nd house on January 2021, my son and grandson stayed on the first. Then, later on @jewelsofaura came with her 5 kids, we built another house as their shelter for just a couple of months because they went back to Luzon, so, the house was empty since 2021.

When typhoon Odette landfall in our City last December 2021,the 2nd house roof about 6 pcs of roof sheets was blown away but thanks the half portion of the house still okey. While the 1st house every time it rains water drips inside the house. My son and grandson endured this situation till 2023.

Last week my son decided to abandon the 1st house, so he and his son cleaned the 2nd house and transferred all their belongings. That day I checked their situation. Then, I saw this cactus near the trash can. Ho my, I rescued the cute cactus, brought it, watered and nurtured. I asked my son where he got this cactus. He said, he got it from a dilapadated building in one of the Soil Test project they performed.

I have known with the Picture This App that this cactus is called Ladyfinger cactus. Also known as Gold lace cactus and Golden star cactus. It's botanical name is Mammillaria elongata whose symbolism is Endurance.

Here is a poem for this plant.

Your love was like moonlight
turning harsh things to beauty,
so little wry souls
reflecting each other obliquely...

-Lola Ridge

Grateful much that I now possess this kind of cactus, for now I am searching for a good vase to match it's beauty.

Thanks for dropping by ...
