I was recently browsing social media (casually) and stumbled across a news item that brought a strange smile to my face… one of those smiles somewhere between surprise and irony. I first saw it on X, in this post:

And I thought: “This can’t be as good as it sounds…”.
An extension that doesn’t swallow every word
It turns out that a programmer, Risha P, created a browser extension called InTruth. The idea is quite straightforward: to use artificial intelligence to verify in real time what politicians say during speeches or debates.
Yes, in real time. While they’re speaking.

After seeing it on social media, I went to read more about it on other websites… and things got even more interesting.
My first reaction: my computer was overheating. 🤯
I won't lie… My first thought was almost like a scene from a comedy show.
I imagined the computer processing political speeches from certain countries (you know which ones…) and suddenly:
fans at full speed
CPU at 100% usage
and smoke billowing out the sides. 😂
Because, let's be honest… some speeches seem designed to break any fact-checking system.
I even thought to myself: “If 9 out of every 10 words are dubious… that AI is going to need a vacation.”
But all joking aside… this is powerful.
Seriously though, the idea carries considerable weight.
The tool isn't perfect (it depends on the available sources and how well it can verify the information), but it opens an interesting door:
Detecting claims that aren't supported by real data.
Pointing out obvious contradictions.
Adding a first layer of "filter" to political discourse.
And that, in times when information travels fast and is easily distorted, is quite valuable.
The small problem (or big problem) for politicians. 😬
This is where things get interesting.
Because a tool like this doesn't just inform… it also makes people uncomfortable.
I can't help but think that more than one politician would see this as a direct threat. In the end, we're talking about something that could:
Expose inconsistencies live.
Reduce the margin for saying anything without consequences.
Expose certain speeches.
And of course… if there's one thing we know, it's that not everyone is willing to play by such clear rules.
Between laughter and curiosity.
Even so, I couldn't help but laugh imagining a #political debate with thousands of people watching, in parallel, as an #AI flags what is doubtful or false.
It would be almost like watching a soccer match… but with the VAR system activated the whole time. 😄
And although I doubt this will make #politicians stop lying (let's be realistic), it could at least force them to think twice… or they would be forced to learn to lie “better.”
In the end, beyond the humor, it seems like a curious—and necessary—step in how we consume politics today.
Because if one thing is clear, it's that we need more tools to separate the noise from the facts.
And if they also make us smile in the process… even better. 😊

Una extensión que no se traga todo el discurso
Resulta que una programadora, Risha P, creó una extensión para navegador llamada InTruth. La idea es bastante directa: usar inteligencia artificial para #verificar en tiempo real lo que dicen los políticos durante #discursos o debates.

Después de verla en redes, me fui a leer más con calma en otras páginas… y la cosa se puso aún más interesante.
Mi primera reacción: la computadora echando humo. 🤯
No les voy a mentir… mi primer pensamiento fue casi una escena de comedia.
Me imaginé la computadora procesando discursos políticos de ciertos países (ustedes saben cuáles…) y de repente:
Ventiladores a mil giros por milisegundo.
CPU al 100%.
y humo saliendo por los lados. 😂
Porque, siendo sinceros… hay discursos que parecen diseñados para romper cualquier sistema de verificación.
Yo mismo pensé: “Si de cada 10 palabras, 9 son dudosas… esa IA va a necesitar vacaciones”.
Pero fuera del chiste… esto es potente.
Ya hablando en serio, la idea tiene bastante peso.
La herramienta no es perfecta (depende de las fuentes disponibles y de qué tan bien pueda contrastar la información), pero abre una puerta interesante:
Detectar afirmaciones que no tienen respaldo en datos reales.
Señalar contradicciones evidentes.
Dar una primera capa de “filtro” al discurso político.
Y eso, en tiempos donde la información vuela y se distorsiona fácil, es bastante valioso.
El pequeño problema (o gran problema) para los políticos. 😬
Aquí es donde la cosa se pone sabrosa.
Porque una herramienta así no solo informa… también incomoda.
Me cuesta no pensar que más de un político vería esto como una amenaza directa. Al final, estamos hablando de algo que podría:
Exponer inconsistencias en vivo.
Reducir el margen para decir cualquier cosa sin consecuencias.
Dejar “desnudos” ciertos discursos.
Y claro… si algo sabemos, es que no todos están dispuestos a jugar con reglas tan claras.
Entre la risa y la curiosidad.
Aun con todo, no pude evitar reírme imaginando un debate #politico con miles de personas viendo, en paralelo, cómo una #IA va marcando lo que es dudoso o falso.
Sería casi como ver el partido de futbol… pero con el sistema VAR activado todo el tiempo. 😄
Y aunque dudo que esto haga que los políticos dejen de mentir (seamos realistas), al menos podría obligarlos a pensarlo dos veces… o estarían obligados a aprender a mentir “mejor”.
Al final, más allá del humor, me parece un paso curioso —y necesario— en cómo consumimos la política hoy.
Porque si algo está claro, es que necesitamos más herramientas para separar el ruido de los hechos.
Y si además nos sacan una sonrisa en el proceso… mejor todavía. 😊
