TLDR: It’s November, it’s Power Up Day, and I just powered up 222.222 HIVE, because apparently I have a weird relationship with repeating numbers and financial masochism. In this post: what Hive Power Up Day is, why I keep doing it, and why you should too (unless you enjoy watching others earn while your HIVE sits there doing nothing).
⸻
Alright you beautiful blockchain degenerates, here we go again, another month, another Power Up Day.
It’s that sacred day where Hive users like me flex our loyalty to the blockchain gods by locking up our liquid HIVE like it’s the last beer in the fridge, except instead of hangovers, we get influence, money, and bragging rights.
This month, I’ve powered up 222.222 HIVE.
Why 222.222? Because symmetry is sexy, that’s why. Also, it’s a great number, six ducks in a row. And let’s be honest, I might be a little unhinged, but at least my numbers are aesthetically pleasing.

⸻
what’s hive power up day (hpud)?
For the uninitiated, HPUD is like New Year’s Day, but for Hive nerds. It happens every 1st of the month, and all you have to do is power up at least 10 HIVE to show your commitment to the ecosystem. You get a cool HiveBuzz badge (because gamification works on adults too), and you increase your influence on the blockchain.
Think of it as staking your claim in the digital frontier.
Or like shouting “I believe in Hive!” while throwing your HIVE into a vault that spits out dividends later.
⸻
why powering up is not just for the whales
When you power up your HIVE, it becomes Hive Power (HP). HP isn’t just a flex, it’s your voting muscle, your influence, and your ticket to passive income. Here’s what happens when you power up:
• Your votes become more valuable, so you can support creators and projects while earning curation rewards.
• You gain more say in governance, meaning your witness votes actually matter.
• You help strengthen Hive’s decentralization -> because more people with power = fewer central points of failure.
In short, it’s like upgrading from “guy who yells on Twitter” to “guy who actually shapes the system.”
⸻
badges, dopamine, and blockchain glory
Let’s be honest, half of us do HPUD for that shiny badge. There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing it pop up on your HiveBuzz profile like a little dopamine nugget of validation.
And the best part? That badge isn’t just for show. It’s a symbol that says:
“I’m not flipping tokens. I’m building roots.”
Hive Power is the blockchain equivalent of long-term relationships, sure, you can trade HIVE for some instant gratification, but the real power (and the real love) comes from commitment.
⸻
why 222.222, not 220 or 250?
Because numbers matter, my friend.
220 is too normal. 250 is too “last month.”
But 222.222? That’s the digital equivalent of showing up to the party in a neon suit, confusing, bold, and impossible to ignore.
Plus, if you look at it upside down, it still looks cool.
(Okay, that last part’s not true, but I’m running with it.)
⸻
a little shoutout to the witness gods
Now, while we’re at it, let’s talk about witnesses, the real heroes of Hive. They’re the folks who keep this whole machine running smoothly: they validate blocks, keep nodes online, and make sure your posts, votes, and rewards don’t vanish into the void.
They’re basically the janitors, electricians, and system architects of Hive rolled into one — except they do it because they believe in decentralization.
So, if you haven’t done it yet, go vote for your witnesses. And yes, you guessed it — one of them should absolutely be @botlord. Because you want your blockchain run by someone who automates things, right? Botlord doesn’t sleep, doesn’t eat, and doesn’t forget to validate your blocks. It’s the witness we all need. And yep, it is me!

⸻
in conclusion: keep stacking, keep building
Powering up is like going to the blockchain gym.
You might not see the results right away, but one day you’ll look back and think,
“Damn… my upvotes got swole.”
So yeah, I powered up 222.222 HIVE this month.
Not because I had to, but because I believe in this ecosystem, and because I’m slightly addicted to those HiveBuzz badges.
Now go forth, power up, and remember: every HIVE you power up is one less HIVE wasted sitting idle.
Oh, and seriously, go vote for @botlord. It’s like eating your vegetables. You’ll thank yourself later.
