How do you choose to hear it? LOH #245

in Ladies of Hive13 days ago

Howdy, Ladies!😍 It's a beautiful day - a beautiful week - to pause, reflect and stay true to our most authentic selves. I'm so glad you're here. Welcome to my blog.

1️⃣ Hearing certain words after making a mistake and feeling judged and attacked in the deepest part of our being, what do you think of this phrase: "I told you so?" Would you also say it to someone else?

The power of 'I told you so' depends on how we choose to hear it...and how we choose to see it.

For a long time, I have not only dreaded hearing those words, but I have carried so much contempt for the person delivering the 'I told you so' platter. Even the softest 'I told you so' would be received with disdain. I have sought advice, only to ignore it, and when things backfired, and I was met with an 'I told you so', I went into hate mode.

Why? Because, we are ego-driven beings who want everything to work out our way. It is our human nature to hate the truth - especially when it comes for us.

If we can be honest to ourselves, 'I told you so' is not a call for regret, rather than a mirror to review that which went wrong. It is a signal - not for failure, but for a better way forward. It is some kind of pivot to what we thought we knew and what reality reveals; a checkpoint for growth. Too often, ego blinds us - not just from acknowledging the backfire, but from accepting correction.

'I told you so' gives us room for error, and room for improvement. I don't get mad anymore when an 'I told you so' comes my way because I did have a head start, but I went ahead and chose not to follow it. In my opinion, what hurts most is not the words 'I told you so', but the unmet expectations we had for that which backfired.

And now to answer the question: would I say it to someone else? Yes, I would. Not to crush or wound them further, but to offer a new lens, a shift in viewpoint. The real question is - will they be open enough to see it?

That, in the end, is up to the individual.

Thank you for reading❤️.

It was good having you here. Stay Blessed💕.

I understand that the power of the phrase depends on the choice we make in hearing it and seeing it, especially if in saying it you use the right tone to offer as you say, a change of perspective and not to further deepen the wounds that accompany the mistake, thank you for sharing your experiences,
