Failure is such an intimate thing, a kick in the stomach. It is not only the failure to reach a goal but also the embarrassment and lack of confidence in myself that comes with it. It's those moments when you've poured your heart and soul into something, only to see it crumble before your eyes.
But failure is also one of life's greatest teachers. All the times that I've flat out fallen on my face, whether it be work, relationships, personal goals, whatever, I've learned. And being defeated helps us to see our faults, and to reconsider our strategies, and to emerge even more powerful.
Failure is only failure if we make it that way. It's a stepping stone, not a stumbling block. All defeats contain the seeds of future victory if we're willing to pay attention to what happened.
Most importantly, failure has taught me resilience. It has taught me that I am stronger than I have given myself credit for, that I can still get back up and give it another shot. Which has allowed me to develop a growth mindset, the idea that abilities and intelligence can be developed through hard work and perseverance.
Ultimately, failure is a part of life's journey. Not as a time to be feared though, but as a time to learn about yourself.
