OLD BARN № 100

in Ladies of Hive13 days ago

In the last post of my Old Barn Project, I reported how OLD BARNS № 097, 098, 099 are no longer standing. Oddly, this barn, too, is no longer in existence. I did not include this one in the last post because it was in a different location from the last three, although it wasn't terribly far from where they were — only about 1.25 mi (2 km). So, that is four barns in a row (numerically) that are now gone.

As I was driving down the road, the rusty red roof of the house caught my attention even before I saw the barn behind it. In fact, I thought the house was a large barn at first glance, so I excitedly stopped the car to make the photo. Only then did I notice the chimney. Granted, some barns have chimneys, but they're relatively rare. And then, boom, there was a small barn behind the house.

The old house is simple, but lovely in its own right. Even if there hadn't been a barn there, I likely would have taken the shot of the house, anyway, especially after stopping the car. I have several such photos of old, abandoned houses. Perhaps I should start an Old House series, too...? 😂 just kidding...

It would have been fun to explore the house and the little barn behind it, maybe even roam around the property. But, the property, itself, wasn't abandoned — only the old house and barn were; the field out front of them had signs of being mowed periodically. So, maybe the house was once the family home before a newer one was built just around a curve in the road.

I didn't see any "ruins" there upon my recent subsequent visit and the scene was perfectly clear. The spot of land where the buildings were situated has now been mown and become part of the very large field across which I snapped the photo. It would be a perfect place for growing hay, and that is probably how the remaining acreage of the property is used.

To the left of the marker for barn 095 on the above map, there are two white dots that represent locations for barns coming up in future posts! Stay tuned! 😁

looking at that map and that is what we would call in the middle of fucking nowhere :D
makes me wonder how bad the internet connection must be in thise areas.

Rustic in the middle of nowhere

The old house you're showing us must have been very beautiful in its day; it's great that the grounds are regularly maintained. I love it—thanks for sharing your experiences, my friend,

A place filled with greenery. The spaces they share with us are very interesting; hopefully, they will be restored and fixed up—these are spaces that once served a family.

Un lugar lleno de mucho verde. Es muy interesante los espacios que nos comparten, ojala lo recuperen y arreglen son espacios que alguna vez sirvieron para una familia. Un abrazo
