Talking about my favorite thing about the holiday season, let's take December holiday season for example. To me, it goes beyond just the celebration, foods and all. It is more about the reunion for me, the various faces I've missed that I will get to see again, I saw one of my cousins last year Christmas and I can't help but wonder how tall she's grown. I really can't wait to see if I will recognize her again this year's Christmas.

Those are my favorite things, the full house, the buzzing rooms, the various jokes and moments shared. I love those moments, moments where we just sit and stare into each other's eyes, moments when aunties suddenly talk about marriage and such. That is definitely my favorite thing about the holiday.
Also, I very well remember one certain Christmas I wasn't feeling too well, I was just discharged from the hospital then, I was still in lot's of pain. I even thought I would be spending Christmas there, but then, my health improved and I was discharged and asked to come back in few weeks time to run some more tests and all. I can vividly remember the smell of the hospital, the creaking sounds of the bed, the family who stood by me, friends that didn't let go, stranger's that lend a helping hand and the pain that I was in. I can say now that what really kept me alive wasn't jus the drugs, pills, injections, drops and all, but the kindness shown to me by people.

That experience of mine changed the way I see things now, it was because of a certain person's help that I didn't spend my Christmas on a hospital bed. The person came through when I really needed it, family stood by me when all hope was lost and all that me er made me feel alone. That's why today I do charity works the little way I can, cause I now find myself healing from putting a smile on someone's face.
And so, that's what I would love to do this Christmas, the gift for this particular Christmas won't be a wrapped one, or the regular sandal, school bag, lunchbox and the likes that I often do before, this time, I will be walking my way to the hospital because I remember and I appreciate life. I won't be going there to impress anybody or to do showoffs, I would go there with bottled water, fruits, energy drinks, and such and hand it over to as much as I can the in the hospital wards. Also I will try my best to take my time and encourage them to not lose hope, hold their hands, listen to them, say a little word of prayer and tell them to remain strong.
Also, I will love to also gift one or two patients a clear bill, meaning I will ask the nurses to tell me about those who are really in pain, and needs some form of assistance and help clear half or all of their bills, or better still, I can just pick for myself and settle it, I will do all of that anonymously, without even taking pictures or posting it. Because, I really understand what it feels like to be on that hospital bed, it can never be like home and it will never be home.

One will be the joy of seeing my family and friends again. It will me feel seen, loved and appreciated. And the gift I will love to give out is one that will make the receiver know they are not alone and that someone really sees them and understand their pain, plights and all. Even if what I can afford is just for one or two people, I will do it gladly.
I still hold the belief that the best gifts is one that impacts lives positively and touches the heart.
Because if someone hadn't done it for me back then, who knows where I will be today.
