I think that everyday should be used to show love, God is love, so his worshippers should have love and must show it every moment of their lives. And not just on a day that is mapped out by who knows! For me valentine is just a way of showy display of stuffs that we get for others and you're right, it's better to help those who really need help, those who don't have a way to repay!
Also we should maintain a good conduct everyday, but valentine's day seems to disagree with this!
