When we talk about sustainable fashion, we are presenting a dilemma, as long as we give the word sustainable the interpretation of "fashion," meaning it is environmentally friendly and at the same time generates a positive flow in the economy.
Fashion is fleeting and ever-changing, we are all aware of that, just look at a family photo album or some old magazines to see the dressing style of each era.
That is why this week's topic questions are very interesting because dressing stylishly does not mean adopting the current fashion, I think it is more about identifying the type of clothing that makes us feel comfortable while looking good and giving it our own personal touch.
Dressing ethically is a much more philosophical matter and will depend on our family values and economic possibilities. Personally, I would not buy items that come from a supply chain where labor is exploited in the so-called Global South.
Big brands, whether exclusive or popular, normally move their production to Asian countries where workers go through exhausting workdays to earn a wage that allows them to cover their expenses. But this low wage level does not translate to the final consumer, instead, it increases the profits of big brands, all based on labor exploitation that borders on modern slavery.
That is why I miss the time when clothes were made by neighborhood seamstresses, to whom you would bring a magazine clipping or, if you were more creative, your own design, and they would turn it into an exclusive design at a fair price for both parties.
Of course, in those times, clothes were repeated, regardless of how many times we had worn them, because the desire to show off and flaunt that modern life has was not so ingrained.
As for not breaking the budget, the only recommendation I can give is to choose good quality garments, preferably those that are versatile and do not go out of style, let's say, classic pieces that can be worn timelessly, as long as they are in good condition, and of course, that do not cost more than our kidneys!

Cuando hablamos de moda sostenible, estamos presentando un dilema, siempre que le demos a la palabra sostenible la interpretación de "moda", es decir que sea amigable con el ambiente y que a la vez genere un flujo positivo en la economía.
La moda es pasajera y cambiante, de eso somos todos concientes, basta con mirar un álbum de fotografías familiar, o algunas revistas viejas para ver el estilo de vestir de cada época.
Por eso las preguntas de la consigna de esta semana son muy interesantes, porque vestirse con estilo no significa adoptar la moda vigente, yo creo que es más bien es identificar el tipo de ropa que nos hace sentir cómodas y a la vez lucir bien y darle nuestro toque personal propio.
Vestir éticamente es ya un asunto mucho más filosófico y dependerá de nuestros valores familiares y de nuestras posibilidades económicas. Particularmente, yo no compraría artículos que provengan de una cadena de suministros en la que la mano de obra es explotada en el llamado Sur Global.
Las grandes marcas, sean estas exclusivas o populares, normalmente trasladan su producción a países asiáticos, en donde los trabajadores pasan por jornadas de trabajo extenuantes para obtener una remuneración que le permita cubrir sus gastos. Pero este bajo nivel de salarios no se traslada al consumidor final, si no que engrosan las ganancias de las grandes marcas, todo a base de una explotación laboral que raya en la esclavitud moderna.
Por eso extraño la época en la que la ropa se confeccionaba por las modistas del barrio, a la que le llevabas un recorte de revista o si eras más cretiva un diseño propio, y éstas la convertían en un diseño exclusivo a un precio justo para ambas partes.
Por supuesto en aquellas épocas la ropa se repetía, sin importar las veces que la hayamos usado, porque no estaba tan arraigado ese afán de exhibir y ostentar que la vida moderna tiene.
En cuanto a la parte de no romper el presupuesto, lo único que puedo recomendar es que se elijan prendas de buena calidad, de preferencia las que son convinables y que no pasen de moda, digamos, prendas clásicas que puedan lucirse atemporalmente, siempre que estén en buenas condiciones, y por supuesto que no cuesten más que nuestros riñones!
