Unfamiliarity of a new environment, peer pressure, new social expectations, rigid schooling system. You were already behind before you started. I'd run out of the school in a panic.
I hated my High school years and being a disappointment to my mom's expectations, I finished Highschool near the bottom of my class. I'm glad your Mom realized what was going on and personally remedied your situation.
