Based on my personal experience working from home, there are cases that time is also extended just to finish the project. Some freelancers even work 40-50 hours a week as required by their clients. So I guess there isn't time freedom too in working from home because you need to follow your client's time, not yours, and you have a deadline too..
But as you said, the key is to find balance, whether working from home or outside the home.

You are right, it all depends on the type of work you do, for example if you are a dessert or food salesman it may take you a little longer to prepare everything and have it ready for the client. In some cases such as being a freelance writer also requires a lot of time to get the ideas and you can form that book you want to write. It's all in that maybe working from home can lead you to do it with more passion and a little less pressure since you don't have a boss, because you would be yourself.
