1️⃣ October, also known as Pink Month, is here. We invite you to take advantage of these days and share your thoughts on menopause and breast cancer, remembering that as women we have an obligation to take the best possible care of ourselves.

The worst news I've ever received was when the doctor bluntly told me: You need radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery because you have breast cancer. It was something that blocked me so much that I kept asking myself: What does the doctor say?

I've always been a healthy woman. I rarely got sick, I go to bed early, I have no vices, and I don't have cancer in my family. Where did it come from? I don't know, but as a religious woman, the first thing I did was entrust myself to God because I was so afraid, I have to confess that.

Family support is very important. I always went to appointments with a sister. My daughters and sisters were with me during the surgery, and my other sister accompanied me during chemotherapy. It's important because the IV drip and medications make you urinate a lot, and you have to be accompanied to the bathroom since one of your arms is on medication, and you need help, believe me.

When my hair started falling out, my daughters came with me to get a clipper from a barber friend who offered to give me the haircut for free. One of them wanted to get her hair cut as well, as a form of support. I told her: by coming here with me, you're already supporting me, because if I had come alone, I would have started crying, and you all gave me a lot of encouragement.

Right now, I'd like to help many women who are going through all this and, like me, don't know what to do next. First, I would tell them to seek God's help by always praying for everything and giving thanks; it soothes the soul. Second, I would ask them to seek help from someone who has already been through this to guide them, like I did with my neighbor, who went through throat cancer, and his mother through breast cancer, and he helped her with the treatment.

Another equally important thing is to stay in a good mood. It's essential not to get sad or skip eating. Sometimes medications hit your stomach hard, and if you don't eat, the damage can be very serious, and you won't have the stamina to continue until you finish the treatment. Also, eliminate soda, flour, fats, sugar, and all processed foods from your life, such as ham, sausages, canned foods, packaged foods of all kinds, and anything ultra-processed.

In my city, Maracaibo, there is a foundation that helps women with breast cancer, and this October they are holding their 10-kilometer walk where they are selling numbers, shirts, and caps to participate. This October 19th, starting at 6 a.m., a whole wave of pink women will be marching through the city as a way to raise awareness among women to pay attention to any strange sensations they may feel in their breasts.

Sort:

You are a very brave and strong woman. Suffering from that terrible disease and the first thing you did was to entrust yourself to God with gratitude is very moving, just as family support is very important.
In addition to the encouragement and help you have given your neighbors and the advice you share with us in your post, those of us who read you are grateful. It is very valuable, as you say, to make women aware of any strange sensations they may feel in their breasts. Thank you for sharing your experiences,

Thank you for this week's question. I hope you're all taking precautions to prevent anything you might find in your breasts. May God protect you all, and may those already undergoing chemotherapy have the strength to endure until the end and arrive safely. Take care of yourselves.
