Hay acontecimientos que nos recuerdan, de la manera más dolorosa, lo frágil que puede ser la vida. El reciente terremoto ocurrido en Venezuela dejó pérdidas, sufrimiento e incertidumbre para muchas familias. Sin embargo, también mostró algo que nunca deja de conmoverme: la capacidad que tienen las personas para ayudar a otras incluso en medio del caos.
1️⃣ Si tuvieras la oportunidad, ¿qué harías por quienes salvaron la vida de niños o por quienes no se cansan de llevar ayuda a los sobrevivientes?
Como médica, siento una profunda admiración por todas las personas que deciden ayudar cuando ocurre una tragedia.
Pienso en los rescatistas que trabajan durante horas sin descansar, en los bomberos que entran donde otros no pueden hacerlo, en el personal de salud que atiende a los heridos aun cuando también siente miedo, y en los voluntarios que reparten alimentos, agua o simplemente ofrecen una palabra de consuelo.
Muchas veces llamamos héroes a estas personas, pero creo que detrás de ese nombre hay seres humanos que también se cansan, sufren y necesitan apoyo.
Si tuviera la oportunidad de hacer algo por ellos, me gustaría que recibieran no solo un reconocimiento público, sino también mejores recursos para realizar su trabajo y apoyo psicológico después de vivir situaciones tan difíciles.
Quienes ayudan a otros en circunstancias tan extremas también cargan con emociones muy intensas, y cuidar de ellos es una manera de agradecer todo lo que hacen.
Creo que una sociedad que valora a quienes sirven a los demás también fortalece su propia capacidad para enfrentar futuras emergencias.
2️⃣ ¿Cómo podemos mantener abierta la posibilidad de recibir donaciones de otros países?
Pienso que la solidaridad no entiende de fronteras.
Cuando ocurre una tragedia, muchas personas desean ayudar aunque vivan a miles de kilómetros de distancia.
Para que esa ayuda siga llegando, es muy importante que exista confianza.
Las personas suelen donar cuando sienten que los recursos llegarán realmente a quienes los necesitan y que serán utilizados de forma transparente.
También es fundamental mantener una buena comunicación.
Hoy las redes sociales y los medios digitales permiten mostrar las necesidades reales casi en tiempo real, facilitando que organizaciones, comunidades y personas individuales puedan colaborar.
Creo que cada gesto cuenta.
Alguien puede donar dinero.
Otra persona puede enviar medicamentos o alimentos.
Y quien no tenga posibilidades económicas siempre puede ayudar difundiendo información confiable o animando a otros a colaborar.
La solidaridad no siempre se mide por la cantidad que damos, sino por la disposición que tenemos para tender una mano cuando alguien más la necesita.
Estas preguntas me recordaron que, incluso en medio de las tragedias más dolorosas, siempre aparecen personas capaces de devolvernos la esperanza.
Y quizás esa sea una de las mayores fortalezas de la humanidad: seguir ayudándonos unos a otros cuando más lo necesitamos.

Some events remind us, in the most painful way, how fragile life can be. The recent earthquake in Venezuela brought loss, suffering, and uncertainty to many families. Yet it also revealed something that never fails to move me: people's willingness to help others even in the midst of chaos.
1️⃣ If you had the opportunity, what would you do for those who saved the lives of children or tirelessly brought help to the survivors?
As a physician, I deeply admire all the people who choose to help when tragedy strikes.
I think of the rescue workers who spend long hours searching for survivors, the firefighters who enter dangerous places, the healthcare professionals who care for the injured despite their own fears, and the volunteers who distribute food, water, or simply offer comforting words.
We often call these people heroes, but behind that word are human beings who also become tired, who suffer, and who need support.
If I had the opportunity to do something for them, I would like them to receive not only public recognition but also better resources to carry out their work and psychological support after facing such difficult situations.
Those who care for others during disasters also carry emotional burdens, and taking care of them is one meaningful way of thanking them for everything they do.
I believe that a society that values those who serve others becomes stronger when facing future emergencies.
2️⃣ How can we keep the possibility of receiving donations from other countries open?
I believe that solidarity knows no borders.
When tragedy happens, many people want to help, even if they live thousands of kilometers away.
For that help to continue reaching those in need, trust is essential.
People are more willing to donate when they believe their contributions will truly reach those who need them and will be used transparently.
Good communication is equally important.
Today, social media and digital platforms allow real needs to be shared almost instantly, making it easier for organizations, communities, and individuals around the world to respond.
I believe every act of kindness matters.
Some people can donate money.
Others can send medicine or food.
And those who cannot contribute financially can still help by sharing reliable information or encouraging others to support relief efforts.
Solidarity is not measured only by how much we give, but by our willingness to extend a helping hand when someone needs it most.
These questions reminded me that even in the midst of heartbreaking tragedies, there are always people who restore our hope.
Perhaps that is one of humanity's greatest strengths: continuing to help one another when we need it most.
