Where do I even start from?
There are so many new things I’d love to get for myself, but of course, priorities come first. So, I’m going to share with you ladies the one purchase I desperately want to make.
Above all the things weighing on my mind right now, a new phone tops the list, it’s my number one priority. Some people who have the luxury of getting a new phone whenever they want, or have someone who can easily get it for them, may not understand this struggle.
Before I got the phone I’m currently using to write this, I waited for years. It wasn’t easy especially when you see your peers using bigger, newer phones while you’re stuck with a small, outdated one. I exercised an incredible amount of patience and, finally, I got this phone in 2020.
As I write this, somewhat shamefully, I’m really not happy to admit that I’m still using the same phone. I’m a university student, and we all know how much pressure that comes along with being a student. I pray openly and secretly, almost every day to get a new one, but the big question remains: HOW?
If you’ve ever used a phone that shows “storage full” even after deleting all your beautiful photos, you’ll understand me. The type of frustration this phone gives me is simply indescribable. Sometimes I feel like smashing it against the wall but if I do, how would I survive in a university where I have no brother or sister, no close or distant relative?
At one point, I tried saving up to buy a new phone, but as you save, you spend. One expense leads to another, and let’s not forget how phone prices keep skyrocketing especially with Nigeria’s current economic situation.
I’ve also tried looking for work or selling something to make money, but my course (veterinary medicine) has proven to be a very jealous one, it wants me all to itself (or maybe it just loves me too much 😂).
Sometimes, I daydream about getting a new phone, at least a better one and honestly, that’s become my little escape from reality. Having a phone you can’t even record a proper video with is so painful 😩. The videos always come out blurry. The experience is both frustrating and heartbreaking.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ungrateful. I’ve seen people who don’t have phones at all and have to rely on others just to make calls or access information. It’s not easy always borrowing phones. At least, I have one, and that’s a blessing. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t dream of having a new one.
And I will. I believe I will get it.
Let me know in the comment section what you think:
– Do you think I’m being ungrateful?
– Do you think I’m being influenced by others?
– Or do you think I’m just a girl who knows what she wants and has strong faith she’ll get it, even when the tunnel seems dark?
P.S. The photo I used belongs to me.
Thank you so much, my beautiful ladies of Hive, for stopping by, reading through, and for all your contributions ❤️
