A book changed my life / Un libro cambió mi vida - LOH contest week #285 (eng-esp)

in Ladies of Hiveyesterday

Hello, my friends.

Literature changed my life from a very young age. That's no exaggeration. I still remember when the neighborhood kids would ask me why I read so much. They never understood my reasons.

I never imagined that years later, all that reading would be so useful when I began my career as a writer.

Every writer wants to see their work published. However, before seeing it published, the first thing we experience is rejection. They don't reject us, they reject our writing. And I honestly don't know which is worse.

Our stories are like our children.

When someone points out a mistake, it's like being stabbed with a burning nail. We always submit our writing thinking it's perfect, but then someone comes along and points out the errors.
Months and years go by and we don't see any progress, a publication, etc.

That's when discouragement sets in, that thought of this isn't for me, nothing I write is any good, etc..

And that's how it was; I felt terrible until I read Stephen King's book: On Writing.

This book is a kind of autobiography; his experiences as a writer. You could say it's a self-help book for the aspiring writer.
King tells us about the endless problems and rejections he faced until he finally achieved success.

He also offers advice, not only as a published author, but as someone who loves literature.

If it hadn't been for Stephen King, I think my writing career would have been different... if I had one at all.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds solace in this book. I'm not the only one who thinks all these problems only happen to me.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

This is a book that gives hope to all emerging authors. It's not just a guide to life as a writer; it's a kind of bible for the novice, a beacon amidst the storms and darkness so common in the literary world.

This is a lifeline. At least, it was for me.

Sort:

Maybe it's because the book is in another language, I wouldn't have thought it's a book by a writer for writers. Glad you found it and it has encouraged you in your writing journey.

Quite a riveting writer, I had seven of Stephen King's novels on my book shelf.
