When I first came to Korea, I expected to fall in love with the usual stuff K-pop, K-dramas, maybe even try some kimchi here and there. But honestly? What really got me hooked were the convenience stores. I know it sounds funny, but hear me out.
So one rainy evening, I was tired, hungry, and didn’t feel like cooking or walking too far. I stepped into a CU down the street, just planning to grab noodles or something quick. But the moment I walked in, I just... froze. There was so much to choose from that am out of decision is it Triangle kimbap, hot bar, even full lunch boxes. And don’t get me started, I fall on banana milk instant love.
At first I thought it was just a one-time thing. But nope. The next day I found myself going again, then again the day after. Every time I visited, I’d discover something new. Limited edition ramen flavors? Check. Bulgogi burgers? Yep. Tiny cakes in plastic boxes that somehow taste amazing? Oh yes.
Soon it became like a habit. I even started making mini food reviews in my head. Spicy tteokbokki? Maybe 8/10. That honey butter sandwich? Hmm... could be better. I started joking with friends that GS25 is my second home.
But really, it’s not just the food. It’s the vibe. Quiet music playing, bright lights at night, the fridge humming. There’s something comforting about it. Sometimes I’d even go just to sit and have a drink like a cold peach iced tea and relax.
And the prices! I mean, where else can you eat a full meal for less than ₩5,000? As someone trying to save money and still eat good, these places are a lifesaver.
I just had to share this. It’s a small thing, yeah, but it’s become part of my day. Something I look forward to Funny how that happens.
