Sitting back to watch this movie again I don't know how and can't even explain why but I felt it has a lot of reason for me to share this interesting more like quite an age movie.
Back in 2008 when Twilight first came out as in vcd disc that I watched it, I remember watching it because everybody around me was talking about it. The hype was everywhere, people were reading the books and suddenly vampires became more romantic than scary. I was younger then, and honestly I didn’t really understand all the drama between Bella and Edward, but I still enjoy the movie because of the atmosphere, the music, and the mystery around it.
This weekend, I don't really have much on my schedule so I decide to watch it again, just to see how I will feel about it now after many years. And it was interesting because my view change a bit. The movie still has that dark and dreamy feeling, the cloudy skies of Forks, the forest scenes, and the way the camera move slow on characters to show their emotions. It bring back memories and quite one of how it was then and of when I first watched.
Narrating on my view of understanding it The story itself is simple: Bella, a normal girl, fall in love with Edward who turn out to be a vampire. The struggle is about how to love someone who could be dangerous for you cos it seems weird, and how Edward himself try to protect her even when his nature tell him to do otherwise. Watching it again, I realize the movie is less about action and more about emotions and tension. Some parts are even a bit funny now, like when Edward sparkles in the sun, I couldn’t stop laughing a little. Back then it was magical, now it looks a bit strange.
I still like the strategy which is of the chemistry between the main characters. Even if some people say the acting is stiff, I think it match the awkward teenage love feeling. The soundtrack is also one of the strongest point, it really give the movie some kind of its unique mood that is not common in other movies.
I will want to say the movie is not perfect. The pacing is slow, some scenes drag out too much, and if you are looking for action you may not be too disappointed may be a bit, But as a romance fantasy, it still works.
Rewatching Twilight this weekend remind me why it became such a phenomenon, a style absolutely a path or a mode. It is not just about vampires, it is about first love, fear, and attraction that feel bigger than life. Even after all this years, it still carry that charm.
