Stalling when it comes to watching movies that have previous seasons is kind of my thing and I do this with valid reasons of course. For starters, I'm not exactly an action film die-hard fan and as such, seeing action films actually takes a lot of convincing and consideration. Second, movies that come as a series, released over a number of years can get very frustrating sometimes. Once the next installment of the movie is released three to five years later, I most likely have to go back to watch the previous season just to get a proper understanding. Thanks, but no thanks.
On a few occasions however, I opt to watch the latest installment in hopes that my brain does not fail me and I can understand what is going on without having to go back for a re-watch. This happened with “Venom: The Last Dance” with a whopping three years between the last installment and the latest installment and I'm pleased to announce that my brain didn't fail me. On the contrary, I really had a good time watching the latest installment in the Venom franchise.
About The movie
“Venom: The Last Dance” is the third installment of the venom franchise. The movie follows Eddie Brock, a human and Venom, an alien symbiote who are both on the run. They are being pursued by an adamant military man and an alien monster from Venom's home world, both of them with varying reasons. Venom, who inhabits Eddie’s body, must find a way to prevent the alien monster from his home world from getting a hold of him while Eddie on the other hand must stay undercover as he is being framed for committing murder.
This movie, produced in association with Marvel entertainment, stars veteran actors like Tom Hardy, Juno Temple, Clark Backo and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Released on the 25th of October, 2024, the movie spans for 109 minutes. The action Sci-Fi was directed by Kelly Marcel and is really an interesting watch.
My Opinion
The movie’s emotional depth and heartfelt narratives are noteworthy. There were so many enjoyable scenes from this movie and some comic ones too. One scene that made me let out a chuckle was when Venom and Eddie were trying to give a response to the “Who are you” question asked by some perpetrators. These two characters were supposed to say “We are venom” in unison to give a more eerie tone but Venom was just too excited to give the perpetrators a beating that he kept responding faster than Eddie. This particular scene gave the viewers some comic relief before an intense scene.
I wouldn't explicitly talk about characters and how developed they were because this is the third installment in a series of Venom films and we've come across a majority of these characters right from the very first installment. However, there were a few new supporting characters that added richness to the movie. There were a few emotional moments and friendship ties created by these new supporting cast and just when I thought I had no more tears left in my tear glands, I felt a build-up of tears in my eyes.
This leads me to two of the most prominent themes in this movie: loyalty and friendship. Ever since I started watching Venom films, I can't count the number of times I've thought that Eddie would somehow abandon Venom because let's face it, Venom is an alien and Eddie is human. But, somehow they've managed to show us that cranky humans and jovial aliens can cohabit just fine. These two characters displayed loyalty and true friendship at any slight chance they got, which of course is really admirable. Other themes portrayed in this movie include; redemption, sacrifice and identity.
The movie’s climax is particularly intriguing with an epic battle that will leave you breathless. Here, Eddie and Venom set aside their differences to work together to defeat a nearly undefeatable common enemy. The pacing was just right, the stunts were properly set in motion and the casts were at their very best during the climax of the movie. This scene was a thrilling and visually impressive conclusion to the movie. With the way this movie ended, it looks like there will be a sequel, one in which I eagerly look forward to.
