John Wick

Sometimes it's funny to me how you can search Netflix for a movie you've seen a long time ago and when you can't find it, you start to wonder why. I recently remembered this movie because I hadn't seen it in a long time. But I had forgotten that it had been a long time, so it was a big confusion for me when every time I looked for it, I couldn't find it. I remember this movie because it is one of the most wonderful productions I have ever seen and I thought I would share it with you all today.

John Wick (2014)

Released on October 24, 2014, John Wick is an action movie that quickly became a cult gem in its genre. Directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, the story takes place in the dark criminal underworld of New York and stars Keanu Reeves, who plays legendary hitman John Wick. The film was produced on a budget of around $20 million and has a running time of approximately one hour and forty minutes.

The story begins with John Wick, a lonely man haunted by the recent death of his wife. Through a last gift, she leaves him a small puppy, Daisy, as a symbol of her love and to help him overcome his loss. However, everything changes when criminals, led by the son of a Russian mobster, break into his home, steal his prized car and kill Daisy. This act awakens Wick's fury and killer instincts, and he sets out on a bloody vendetta against those who have taken away what was left of peace in his life.

What struck me most about John Wick was the visual style and pacing of the film. Each action scene is choreographed with incredible precision, combining martial arts, gunplay and impressive gunplay skills that make each confrontation feel like a violent dance show. Keanu Reeves demonstrates total commitment to his role, making his performance compelling and powerful, managing to balance his character's ferocity and vulnerability.

In addition, John Wick presents us with a world where assassins have their own code of honor and an organization with precise rules and secret sanctuaries, such as the famous Continental Hotel, which is neutral territory for all members of this sinister universe. This approach adds depth to the plot and opens the doors to a sophisticated and dangerous criminal underworld that is fascinating.

The film received some negative reviews for its simple and straightforward plot, but that very simplicity is part of what makes John Wick so effective. It is a pure, uncomplicated revenge story, where the protagonist seeks justice and redemption through his own lethal abilities. The cinematography and use of neon lighting give it a modern, dark aesthetic that perfectly suits the tone of the film.

John Wick is, without a doubt, one of those films that redefines action in cinema. With a unique visual style, impeccably choreographed action scenes and Keanu Reeves at his best, the film captivates from the start and keeps viewers glued to their seats. Definitely worth seeing!

Best action movie of the 2010s. Glad to see it here.

I only watched the first in the John Wick series and I also admired the straightforwardness of the plot. A simple but action-packed revenge story. An excellent production. Thanks for highlighting this!
