The wolf of wall street (2013): Topnotch movie in NYC

I just finished watching The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and wow what a wild ride.

I love it when a movie takes a true story and makes it feel larger than life without making it look forced. The Wolf of Wall Street does exactly that. It pulls you into this insane world of money, greed, and excess, and for three hours, you just can’t look away.

There’s something about movies that follow a character’s rise and fall that always pulls me in. You know things are going to crash at some point, but you still want to see how far they can go before it happens. Movies like Scarface and Goodfellas have done it before, but this one feels different it’s funnier, wilder, and more chaotic.

Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is the kind of character you know you should hate, but you just can’t. The guy is a complete scam artist, a fraud, a criminal—but the way he’s played makes you want to see what crazy thing he’ll do next. That’s the power of storytelling. When a movie tells things from a character’s perspective, you somehow start rooting for them, even when they’re doing the worst things imaginable.

The energy in this movie is insane. It never slows down, never gets boring, and somehow, even the most ridiculous scenes feel real. One of my favorites? That moment when DiCaprio’s character is so high he can barely move, but he has to get to his car. I laughed so hard. And Jonah Hill? He was perfect in this role just as crazy, just as reckless, and the perfect partner-in-crime for Belfort. Margot Robbie was also amazing; she brought a lot of depth to her character instead of just being "the beautiful wife."

A Few Things That Bothered Me

Not a lot, but a few things felt off for me.
First, the movie is long. Three hours is a lot, and while I was never exactly bored, there were moments that could have been trimmed down without losing anything important.

Second, even though the movie is based on a true story, some things felt too exaggerated. I know Belfort was crazy, but did he really live like that every single day? At some point, it felt like the movie just kept stacking on wilder and wilder moments just because it could.

Then there’s the way the movie makes Belfort seem almost like a legend. He’s a criminal, but the way the story is told, you kind of want to be like him, even if you know you shouldn’t. It’s that mind trick—when a movie puts you inside a character’s head, you start seeing things their way. Some people left the movie admiring Belfort when they really shouldn’t have.

Final Thoughts

Despite its flaws, The Wolf of Wall Street is one of those movies that keeps you glued to the screen from start to finish. It’s fast, funny, and brilliantly acted. If you love movies about power, money, and absolute chaos, this one’s a must-watch.

Rating: I will be rating this movie with 9/10
