Movie Review | "Suspicion" A Juju Fiction Thriller

in CineTV3 days ago

What do you do on a seemingly boring Sunday, back from church and all I just want to do was lay in bed, but sleep was far from my eyes, thankfully, my kids are on a short break with grandma, which gives me a 'me time' and less distraction to try watching a movie after a long while today.

Normally I would go for a Hollywood action genre, but data subscriptions these days are not friendly for binge watching, then I remembered that my brother-in-law had downloaded some movies for me on my laptop the last time I visited his family, going through the list, the movie Suspicion caught my attention, probably because there was something suspicious about its title or because it's cover image showcased two trendy actors in my country right now.

To be frank, I've never really liked watching Nollywood movies for a long while due to the repeated storylines and it's almost very easy to guess the next scene and even the end of the movie right after it starts, but the movie suspicion released in the year 2024 is everything opposite of how I have stereotyped Hollywood movies, and also increased my yearning to see more latest Movies in the industry.

The movie starts with a worried mother who woke up from a troubled sleep and her next line of action is what makes the movie even more captivating, as she carries her young son to get him fortified in the middle of the night, to prove if the fortification worked, she boiled her son in a hot drum boiling water but no harm or even a slight bruise was seen on him, she went further to shoot him with a local gun and the bullets didn't penetrate.

The boy Voke stared by Stan Eze grew up to be a fine young man living a normal life with his best friend Rogba Stared by Uzor Arukwe(popularly known as Odogwu) after his hit movie, and goddaughter Lolu, Voke also had a girlfriend Chisom who he tried as much as possible to please but his financial capabilities wasn't enough, as a young man he kept his family secret, as the movie unfolds we got to know that some families were born with supernatural abilities, also known as Juju, some like Voke's mum starred by the legendary actress Tina could see the future while his father could teleport, but teleportation was seen as the most power-draining juju as it took years away from anyone who could.

The real action started when his friend's daughter, Lolu was kidnapped on their way to drop her at school by hooded guys, while Voke and his friend fought to get their daughter back, they realized that these hooded guys also had juju and were impervious to bullets as well. While Voke had powers and could only hold some of them off, Rogba was an ordinary man without powers, so the assailant succeeded in their kidnap mission.

Viko had to go back to his mum for help to locate the kidnappers with her spiritual eyes, but seeing evil, she refused to help him, pleading he was her only son and didn't want any harm to come to him, but Voke was persistent and later discovered that his goddaughter was used for ritual and he also lost his friend in the process of looking for her as he was shot into the river by a gunman.

All of these tragic events made him seek revenge for his friend and goddaughter, making him embrace the supernatural abilities he had restricted himself from using for years, will he find the person behind all that has happened to him, who did it turn out to be, all you will find out as the scenes unfold, and yes again, it isn't as predictable Nollywood movies are, making me enjoy my time with this movie today.

My favorite scene was the fighting part, Nollywood movies have indeed had great improvement in the editing, lighting, effects, choreographed fighting, and the gunshots, every action was on point and didn't look too fake which would have been a turn-off if it were.

My favorite actor in Suspicion goes to the lead actor Stan, as he delivered his role excellently, showcasing strength, humility even with his powers and how far he can go on a revenge mission for the sake of his loved ones, and even when the love of his life Chisom left him the time he needed her most, he stayed on the path to finding answers, even though the answer he got broke him, at least he served justice to all those who caused all the tragedy he faced.

My rating for this movie is a 9/10 because it was worth my time, first time seeing an improved Nollywood movie after a long time, and also made me yearn for more makes it deserve this rating. If you are in for supernatural and action genres combined together, give Suspicion a trial!
