The struggle for survival and social class disparity

It's rare that I watch a Spanish movie other than La Casa de Papel but for me this movie is genius in every sense of the word.

The Platform is a wonderful Spanish drama produced in 2019 set in a very strange world where the prison consists of a tall tower and each floor has people imprisoned and The whole idea is that there is a platform that descends every day from above to carry food for the people in these prisons and it starts from the first floor and goes down to the rest of the floors but with time the food decreases and ends before they reach the last Therefore each floor has a less and less share of food and this creates an atmosphere of great conflict between the prisoners.

The film tells the story of a man named Grande who wakes up on the 48th floor which means that the one above him gets the food first and the one below him throws away the leftovers This idea exposes us to a harsh reality about selfishness social classes and how people fight to survive or even eat.

The events accelerate in a suspicious way and Grande goes through very difficult experiences and sees the extent to which people can go to stay alive The film gives us a vision of the social classes and the disparity of opportunities between people Each floor represents a different social class and this society may be similar to what we live in as the people in the upper classes always have all the privileges and those below them face severe suffering.

The film does not only tell an action and adventure story but it also presents a psychological and social drama with philosophical hints about life justice and human dignity The directing was wonderful and the actors performances were excellent especially in portraying the feelings of fear despair and internal conflict that the characters go through.

The Platform is a film that the viewer will not forget because it makes us think about society and the disparities that occur in it and how we could deal with each other if there was a chance for change.
