The cost of seasoning mixes these days is outrageous!

Just look at something as simple as Taco Seasoning. Depending on the quality, the average cost ranges from $1.15 to $3.05 per ounce!

Why not make your own seasoning mixes?

It's incredible how quickly the expense of those little packets or jars can add up. Seasoning mixes, like Taco Seasoning, are just a combination of basic spices that you probably already have in your cupboard. Making your own spice blends saves you time and may be a fun activity, and saves money. Plus, the flavors are to your tastes!

My Taco Seasoning Recipe

These are the spices that you will need:

And the measurements are:

1 tablespoon Chili Powder

1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder

1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder

1/4 teaspoon Oregano Leaves

1/2 teaspoon Ground Paprika

1/2 teaspoon Ground Cumin

You may use up to 1-1/2 teaspoon of Ground Cumin to your liking.

1/2 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

Mix the spices thoroughly.

Put it in a container and cover it tightly, ready to use!

Seasoning mixes are fantastic gifts too.

You create your own seasoning mix, and give it away as a gift without putting a strain on your budget!

If you need recipes for spice mix, just holler. Aside from the Taco Seasoning, I make Cajun Seasoning, Garam Masala, Italian Seasoning, and a BBQ Rub.

I can imagine the smells in your kitchen! Properly balanced blends will undoubtedly have a happy ending in every dish prepared... and you're absolutely right when you say we can save money and prepare our spices to suit our tastes.
A few years ago, I used to make jars of pickled spices, and people loved them. They usually contained chives, leeks, chilies, and oregano... I can only say they had a delicious smell and sold pretty quickly... with one of those jars, food almost always tasted heavenly...
I'd love to hear about your marinade recipe.

There are lots of marinade recipes which you can use for either any protein you want or vegetables. My favorite uses these ingredients: 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon oregano leaves, 3 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon honey, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/4 cup soy sauce, and 1/4 cup olive oil. You can use this for fish, chicken, pork, or beef, tofu, and vegetables! Just marinate your protein or veggies in the ref for half an hour!

They are pretty crazy and most of them have such a high sodium content. My wife and I have been making our own taco seasoning for several years now.

The average sodium content of regular taco seasoning packs is 350 to 575 mg!!! It was my primary motivation to make my seasoning, @bozz!

Liz occasionally makes up chili spices for "Cincinnati recipe chili"😍
This is a unique taste of Cincinnati, that is so different than traditional spicy chili!😀

I know they have Mediterranean-inspired flavors, made from chili powder, salt, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, whole cloves, whole allspice berries, and a bay leaf and served over spaghetti. I'd better ask her! Thanks for the tip!!!

You can actually buy this prepackaged spice called “skyline chili” mix…..
But like you said it’s much better to make it up from your own ingredients. That’s what Liz does and it’s spot on and…..delicious!🤗

That's a nice mix, very similar to what I use! Except I like mine a bit spicier so there's some hot ground red chilis in there too! I don't buy spice mixes like that ever, you can always make your own so much cheaper. Great job on saving a lot of money!
