Match 17 - Argentina 2-0 Peru
Argentina were already qualified for the quarter-finals and some of the key players got to watch from the bench or stand. It didn't make much difference. Peru were goalless in their two previous games and only managed one shot on target against the current champions.
Some fine saves from Gallese kept Argentina at bay but 0-0 at half time was the best Peru managed. Martinez scored shortly after the break with a chip over the keeper, and repeated the trick shortly before the end of the match. A missed penalty by Paredes on 72 minutes will be a concern, should they require penalties later in the competition.
Match 18 - Canada 0-0 Chile
Chile required a win to progress. Having a player sent off on 27 minutes for a second yellow card made things much more difficult. This was especially the case as Canada set themselves to not concede, to get in, take the point they required, and get out. A goal in stoppage time would have given Canada a gloss they didn't deserve, so it being ruled out for offside was just.
