My journey with homesteading is still ongoing, and every time I try something new, and every experience teaches me something different. This time it was the turn of watercress! The first time I thought about planting watercress, I felt it was the right choice because watercress is a fast-growing plant and very easy to grow. I started with small containers on the window at home, because watercress doesn’t need a lot of space.
At first, I bought watercress seeds from the market, and they were simple and not expensive at all. I kept the soil moist and kept watering it all the time so it wouldn’t dry out. Watercress loves the sun, so I kept the place sunny and the air fresh. By keeping up with the soil and watering, watercress started to appear after a few days. I really liked seeing the seeds turn into small plants in front of me.
After about two weeks, the watercress started to grow a little and I started to pick its first leaf. Of course, it was a very nice feeling, as if you not only planted something, but also reaped your hard work. The watercress tasted so fresh and natural, and every time I picked a leaf I felt that the result was worth all the effort.
It's not just about growing watercress, but also about the idea of homesteading itself, which gives you a sense of independence and productivity. When you grow something yourself, you feel like you're part of nature and doing something useful for you and your family. Also, watercress is considered a very healthy vegetable, and it has great benefits, especially if you like to add it to salads or sandwiches.
Growing watercress was a sweet and easy experience, and every time I saw a new plant emerging from the ground, my enthusiasm increased more and more. As time passed, I started thinking about growing other things besides watercress, because every new experience would open new doors for me to learn and discover.
