"Securing a Reliable Water Supply: Installing a Borehole Tank for Self-Sufficiency"

in Homesteading9 days ago

HELLO HIVE

Water scarcity is one of the major hindrances to self-sufficiency in homes with unpredictable supply coupled with a tank that wasn't sufficient for the whole house. Those who were here last year complained bitterly about the problem of water scarcity during the months of April and May because there was no rain during that point and the sun-Saharan heat of Sokoto State, Nigeria, dried up the only available well around.

The animals are struggling to get sufficient water, likewise us, who need a lot of water for crops and livestock. This triggered the action to install one more tank on the already existing tank that was leaking at some point.

Financial arrangements were put in place from April last year when the whole scarcity was at its peak; temperatures above 41 degrees in this place mean you use a lot more water than you usually would, and the same condition causes the water supply around areas like this to be way below what so many parts of the country are feeling.

We needed the new tank as a backup supply whenever the other tank was empty because the electricity supply that was meant to pump the water was not good enough during the same period because the heat damaged major transformers around, so it was ideal to only supply electricity whenever the days temperatures were favorable.

The dependency of one tank is reduced to a reasonable level; we get better distribution this way, and we are prepared for emergencies when electricity might be gone for days even though we haven't experienced it yet.

We are laying down additional piping and fittings to connect to the new tank; the moment it was up, thanks to hands from friends, the goal is to allow seamless water flow and easy refilling once the tank is empty.

This is a project of self-sufficiency; having enough water is not only about convenience but survival, and thankfully we had a lot of hands to make this happen.
