Let me start by asking: What’s the use of riches if you’re too sick to enjoy them?
Of course, wealth is as good as nothing without health. The phrase “health is wealth” means that one’s physical and mental agility is the most important form of riches—before money or possessions come in. One needs strength and wellness to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Yet, many people chase success and money while neglecting their health. Sadly, they often end up spending their wealth trying to recover the very health they sacrificed.
The importance of health in one’s life cannot be overemphasized. Without good health, a person becomes limited. You may lack the freedom to do what you're supposed to, your productivity may decline, and even happiness will feel out of reach.
This happened to my brother, who once ran a growing business. When he became seriously ill, everything came crashing down. His workers had to be laid off, contracts were canceled, and most of the company’s remaining funds went into medical treatment. Though he has recovered, we’re still struggling to rebuild the company. That’s how devastating poor health can be. On the other hand, good health gives you the energy to work, enjoy life, and chase your dreams with confidence.
Some common causes of poor health include stress, unhealthy diets, lack of exercise, drinking unclean water, and living in dirty environments.
For example, in my town, we’re currently battling the effects of a poor environment; mismanaged waste, stagnant waters and unkempt gutters.
This unclean surroundings are leading to frequent malaria outbreaks. It’s a real reminder that health doesn’t come only from hospitals or medicine; it also depends on the conditions around us.
To protect our health, we must be intentional. Start with small but powerful habits: eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, drink clean water, and rest well. Keep your surroundings clean and maintain good hygiene. Don’t ignore mental health- rest your mind, avoid bad thoughts, and do things that bring you peace and joy. These practices may seem simple, but they build a strong foundation for a healthy life.
In the end, health is truly the greatest wealth. Without it, every other achievement loses meaning. So, let’s learn to protect our health before we’re forced to chase it in hospitals.
Your body is your home, treat it like treasure.
