I've never been to Lagos mainland, but I've heard a lot of stories about it. From your description I can imagine how much you dislike it.

It's not easy to control a large number of people. Not everyone is environmentally conscious like you are. So, they won't change. If you can, just get some nose masks for your kids.

Air pollution is everywhere, most of the time I prefer where people are not much so I could have access to fresh air.
