Electricity is very important, as a matter of fact, we can't do without electricity. Imagine living a life without electricity, no lights, no phones, no chargers,.no televisions . Life would be so frustrating and boring without these things. Sometimes, I'd always think about how the people who exist during the 1800's, how did they survive without electricity, how was life for them, how were they able to pass information…?
All these thoughts would always cross my mind, whenever i think about how electricity in this current time can frustrating . The joy that comes with, when there's power supply or when the lights just come on, everyone would shout , UP NEPA!. Every Nigerian can honestly attest to this .
One of the problems we encounter in our country, is low power supply. Especially in the rural areas, people residing in the rural areas, have complained serverally about low power supply. We're currently in the season, whereby the weather is so hot, the atmosphere is always boiling, the intensity of the heat could actually melt someone's soul.
The officials in charge of power supply are just so inconsiderate, they don't care about how people are feeling and how they're coping with the weather. Before now, we've always enjoyed 23 hours power supply, every single day. All of a sudden, they changed for bad. They've developed a very bad setting of providing power supply. Whenever it about to rain, or maybe the weather gets windy, they'd turn off the lights.
Like, it doesn't make sense to me, because at the end of the day, it won't rain anymore. And guess what?
They won't turn on the power supply after the wind is over, at the end of the day, we'd end up sleeping inside the heat in the night. Some nights, when things like this happen, i won't be able to sleep, even if i bath a hundred times, before going to bed, i still won't be able to have a peaceful night rest.
Aside from the fact that, it causes sleepless nights, it also affects in other negetive ways, I'd mention the one that hurts me the most. I love cooking in bulk and storing the food in my refrigerator, taking the food bit by bit. It helps me to run along with my daily activities, without having to worry about buying food outside. Here's the sad part of it all. The power supply officials would seize the lights, for about 12 hours, sometimes for the whole day. The level of pain i go through, when they seize the lights for that long, is always unbearable. I'd have to start warming and microwaving the food so it won't get bad.
A times, the food would end up getting bad in the refrigerator. This is always a huge loss for me, throwing away food in this present economy, is like throwing money into the gutters.
The new trend now, is to always announce that national grid has gone bad. Like, how is national Grid on break down and the next Street has power supply ?
It doesn't just make sense to me, it is very obvious that, these power supply officials are taking advantage of their position to punish the citizens.
How to end bad power supply
First things first, any corrupt individual should not be put incharge, in supplying electricity to the citizens.
Some of this power supply officials are filled with a corrupt heart, after providing little power supply to the citizens, they end up bringing crazy electricity bills.Regular maintenance and adequate servicing on the transformers, should be made compulsory. Two streets away from my street, a transformer got spoilt due to inadequate servicing, and the residents had to stay for 2 months without electricity. I can only imagine how hard it was for them, this would've been prevented, only if the transformer got, regular maintenance.
conclusion
The power supply over here is super terrible, couple with the hot weather, the government needs to make it their priority, to always make sure the citizens have stable power supply. Power supply officials, shouldn't allow corrupt staffs to handle electricity supply to the citizens. I just hope all these things come to an end, so that everyone can enjoy good power supply.
