As a Nigerian, born and bred here, I have come to see electricity as not a basic amenity but as a privilege, it is almost as if the government are doing us a favor by bringing light. Though some may argue otherwise, our realities are different, in my own part of Nigeria here, having light/power supply is more like receiving grace from the government, there are times it might just come once in a week, we charge, iron, wash and do all and that's it for the week.
Other times it comes but is very low, know to the extent that it won't be a able to power the fan talkless of fridge and other household appliances, there arw also times that it comes and during our jubilation, it will go off in less than ten minutes. So, when the topic ask me to choose between solar, generator, and normal power supply, to me its a personal question.
This so called normal power supply for me, is not reliable. It disappoints very often, its not always there nor is it available. Presently now, am not even expecting it, if it comes fine and if it doesn't, to me its normal, even if it comes, I no longer rush up to charge and do stuffs cause I know it won't stay on for long, so of what use is it. One moment you're watching a movie, the next you're staring at a black screen. Yet, people remain hopeful, even I remain hopeful, just that anytime it comes, I no longer join them to shout...up NEPA, I don't.
Talking of generators too, a lot of people, business, industries and all make use of it, I could have call it plan A, but let's say plan B, as some people do not really depend on it unlike my own area. We have all gotten use to its noise, sometimes ago I do say I can't sleep in a noisy place, but now, all my neighbors own a generator, I have gotten used to it now that I sleep so soundly....only that when its off, I do wake up, or can I complain, of course not, how do I read for my exams, how do I charge my phones. Even though fuel is costly, we just have to sacrifice to keep the light on. Like I said Earlie on, the noise, there's that of smoke too and atimes when engines decides to show you who they are, it will frustrate one like.......
Lastly, theres solar, am sure you know that's what I will be voting for, it doesn't make noise, doesn't collect daily stipends like generator. Its the best for me. The same sun that we complain of that burns our skin powers it. Solar changed everything for me, if power supply comes, fine, and if it doesn't we move, theres nothing to stress on like the generator will do to you also. Not as if solar is perfect, there are days when everything will just be cloudy and the sun will not be given a chance to show. But once you are able to get one set up, its the best. I can sleep soundly, charge freely, read at will, no noise, smoke or anything. Just me and light.
Me o, with all I have experienced, those things I have suffered and all, I will tell you its solar without thinking twice. Not that it’s flawless, but it's the best for me. Everyone is going through a lot in this country, we are just trying to survive, there's the unstable economy, theres bad roads, there's poor medical facilities, there's the issue with our educational system, and lastly there's the cause of it all....Bad governance. Its high time we do something of convenience for ourselves. I just want a stable light, not one that goes on and off.
