The family you are born into plays a significant role in shaping who you become. I remember during my elementary school days, my teacher told us that when a child is born, their first teacher isn’t their nursery or elementary school teacher, but their parents, particularly the mother. When a child is born, it is the responsibility of the mother and father to teach them the difference between right and wrong. It is their responsibility to instill in them values that are respected by society. A child born into a respected family, whose parents work hard to train them. They make sure they don’t miss out on Bible studies, lessons, and all. On the other hand, a child born to drunkards.Although we cannot be certain, there is a very high probability that the first child will turn out better than the second.
We all come from different families and each has different ways of raising their kids. While one parent can focus on making their child academically successful, another can make them business models. In the end, all that matters is that the child doesn’t turn out to be an urchin or a menace to society. Looking back, my parents significantly influenced my life. If not for their teachings, I honestly do not know where I would find myself today. If they hadn’t made sure my siblings and I grew up well, maybe we would be on the streets now. This is why I am always constantly grateful for the gift of my family.
Growing up, one of the lessons they taught me is to always to contended. Today, I hear stories and watch videos of thieves getting caught. Some of them are even within my age group. If their parents had raised them well or if they were in their lives, would they still steal? Probably not. It was not like my parents were wealthy. We weren’t suffering and to great extents, my parents satisfied my needs and wants.
Whenever we needed something, my parents would provide it. They tried their best to satisfy our wants. But when they saw that what we were asking for was unnecessary, they didn’t hesitate to decline. Somehow, my parents, particularly my mom, taught us that it was impossible to always get what we wanted. She always taught us to be content with whatever she gave us. This helped me throughout my high school and university years, and I know it will keep helping me.
I even think I have taken it to the extreme because I find it difficult to ask people for help, unless I am very close with them. As long as what I have works for me, then I will keep managing. My family influenced my life in so many areas. Thanks to them, I know how powerful prayers can help. When we were younger, we used to pray every day. We would all gather in a room and pray. Today, it is a part of me. Even on days when I feel very weak, I make sure to say a short prayer before going to bed and trust me, it helps.
This is my entry to the sci-fi multiverse prompt. The topic is: How family shapes who we become.
