We are in the 21st century, where almost everything revolves around the internet. In the digital world, network providers are lifesavers. Without them, there's no access to the internet, no binge-watching reels, no catching up with family and friends on WhatsApp, no YouTube videos and all. Basically, our access to the internet would be limited. The truth is that these network providers help us connect to the online world, but when they start fluctuating? That's where the problems begin. Network providers can be your biggest joy when they work smoothly, but on the other hand, they can be the source of your biggest rage when they start fluctuating. One second you are playing an online game, and the next, you see a “connecting to the internet” or no signal page on your screen. Really annoying!
Sometimes I try as much as I can not to curse network providers. You know, because their employees are human beings; someone’s mother, father, or sibling, but these guys step on your toes making it difficult to restrain ourselves from using negative words against them. Here in my country, when it comes to a list of people or organizations who get cursed by citizens, the ones that top the list are NEPA (electricity company). Next are service providers; Mtn, Airtel, and Glo are the most common ones here. Every day, I see people on Twitter and other social media platforms roasting them. For this week’s Sci-fi multiverse prompt, the community asks us to share the network provider we use. There's a list of diverse network providers, which one do you use and why?
As a Nigerian, you have to be smart if you want to make life easier for yourself. As I mentioned above, there are different network providers; MTN, Airtel, and GLO, are the most common ones. Interestingly, I use the three. Meaning, I have MTN, Airtel, and Glo sims. You might be wondering why I have 3 sims. Why not just one? Well, I learnt a lesson the hard way and I realized that it was best to have the three sims in case of eventualities.
A few months ago, I set a goal to post every day of the year. At first, it was difficult for me, but soon enough, I got the hang of it. On a certain Monday, I had an 8am class. I woke up very late and couldn't write before I left the house. So, I rushed to school, and to my surprise, the lecturer was already in class. That day was busy, with back-to-back classes, presentations, and tests. I got home very late, at about 7pm. I knew I had to write, but I was too tired and decided to take a short nap. Unfortunately, I overslept and woke up at 11 pm. Quickly, I jumped up and remembered I had to write. After I completed my post, added a title, images, and tags, and was about to hit the publish button, my network went off. "No service."
It was about 11:50 at the time. So, I thought it was the usual MTN fluctuation and that the network would be back in five minutes. Five minutes turned to 10, and 10 to 20. I became worried because I had less than an hour to meet my goal. I rushed from one place to another, but I soon realized that the MTN network had generally gone off. It was about 20 minutes till the deadline that I realized that the GLO network was still good. A friend who was using GLO turned on his hotspot for me and I managed to post. That night was really awful and I decided that I didn't want that to happen ever again.
To stay on the safe side, I decided to buy three sims. If anyone decides to act up, the other would come to save the day. As chess players, our worst enemy is bad network connectivity. If it happens to our opponent, then that's a different story. Thanks to the fact that I have 3 sims, whenever I want to play chess, I choose the one that is working well at the moment.
In conclusion, there is no "good network provider." They all fluctuate depending on the location. So, if you want to make your life easier and avoid eventualities, it's best to have more than one network provider.
Thanks for reading.
