Fuel For My Journey

“Life has an interesting way of pulling its strings.” Whenever life throws something difficult at me, I reply with that phrase. When I gained admission into the university, I wanted to do things on my own. I wanted to go solo; attend classes alone, go home alone, and read for tests and exams alone. However, somehow, I became friends with some of my coursemates. Our friendship was so good that I thought it wasn't going to end. But you know what? It did. It ended so badly. Of course, I put in the effort to make friendships work. Heaven knows I wanted it to work, but it didn't. When it finally ended, I replied with “Life has an interesting way of pulling its strings.” Life is beautiful, colorful, and interesting. At the same time, life can be brutal, ruthless, and harsh. Whether it is the former or the latter, one thing I have realized about life is that life is meaningless if you don’t have a purpose. Life becomes meaningful when you have a motivation for doing things.

For today’s Sci-Fi multiverse prompt, the community presents an interesting topic; What is your motivation in life? To you, what is the essence of life? This reminds me of a scene from Game of Thrones. I don’t remember the exact episode or season, but a character told another character that the reason why men go to war is to make money to feed their families. When they go to war, they give up everything they have. They give up their lives. Whether they die or live is up to luck and fate. For you, what is your motivation for doing things? Why do you work so hard? Why do you stay up all night?

While analyzing a poem in class one day, one of my lecturers once asked me this question; What is your motivation? At first, I was dumbfounded. Not because I had no answer, but because I did not see the question coming. There are many people who gained admission into the same university, but instead of studying and attending classes, they go to parties, drink, smoke, and do other frivolous things. They live their lives to the fullest. I, on the other hand, make sure not to miss classes. I go to school back to back, read for tests and presentations, and pull off all-nighters. Why do I do this? Is this really what I want?

To be very honest, one of my motivations for studying so hard is to please my patients. I know that being a good son and a hardworking student would please my parents, so I do it. My parents have put so much into my education. Four years ago, my family was in a tight spot. My sister gained admission into a private university and her school fees was crazily expensive. It was at that time that I also gained admission into the university. My parents had to sell our car to foot the bills. So yes, that alone is a great motivation for me to take my education seriously. School can sometimes be draining, but the fact that my parents will be happy with me keeps me going. Life itself can be draining, but my parents and siblings keep me going.

Your parents sold the car to foot the bills? That’s sad. Now, tell me why you won’t be motivated to work hard so you can buy another one?
Keep going!!!!

Indeed, it was.
Thank you so much.❤️

I love the fact that you have a motivation, it is somehow similar to mine
Let's just keep doing our best

Thank you, T.

You are welcome

I, on the other hand, make sure not to miss classes. I go to school back to back, read for tests and presentations, and pull off all-nighters.

I can totally relate, I read so much that my social life was a total miss. As a result of studying too much, I’m currently too reluctant to go do my Masters. Crazy world!

I'm also reluctant to do my masters. I don’t want to go through stress all over again.

Thanks for the support.

Good parents are rare to find so it's amazing that you know the worth of their sacrifice

Surely, I'll repay them in multiple folds.

God will help you in doing more than you imagined
