LIFE, DREAMS AND SUCCESS
For this prompt, we invite you to tell us, what's your perception of success? Do you have dreams? What are they? Are you living your dream, did you give up on your initial dream and change it or are you working towards making your dreams reality? Do you consider financial freedom as success? If yes, at what point can you say you are financially free? At what point can a person say that they are successful in life? When do we stop and say: I've accomplished everything, lemme enjoy the rest of my days without working or stressing myself? After you achieve your dreams??
According to the famous writer William Shakespeare, “ Be not afraid of greatness, some are born great, some achieve greatness, while some have greatness thrust upon them” In simple terms, this means that some inherit wealth and resources after their birth, some achieve greatness through their diligent pursuit of their daily endeavours through thick and thin. No wonder the saying. “No cross, no crown”, while some, by coincidence or through the act of God, found themselves in a high position, even though they didn’t struggle for such positions. This is my overview perception of success.
Now, coming to dreams, some individuals build their castles in the air. I say this because some dream big, talk about huge plans or projects and later pour everything into a basket. Others dream, work diligently through thick and thin, and yet would have a little success. Meanwhile, others wake up, and out of the blue, somebody will call them to come do this contract or that, and boom, they become successful.
Please do not get it twisted, some individuals also work diligently through their career path and are very successful today. I fell into this category. Though it would also depend on what we call success. My perspective on success may vary from that of another individual.
For this write-up. My perspective of success is defined as being able to live comfortably within one's means of livelihood. Providing and meeting the family's needs with little or no struggle. Growing up, I had big dreams about working with big firms and being a successful woman, taking care of my parents, assisting with funding for projects in my local church and family. This was because I was the last in a family of six siblings, and growing up, my elder siblings were already covering bills comfortably. So, the dream did not change; rather, it was a fulfilled one. The only thing that changed was my intentions on how I wanted to spend my resources when I grew up.
Though my early career days were a bit challenging, I can confirm that I am comfortable for now, but not accomplished. I am still a work-in-progress. I haven’t reached that level of life where I would say I want to quit working and rest. Even if I retire from active service, I don’t think I will be completely inactive in the workspace. There are many online platforms that one can leverage for remote work to keep the soul and body together.
The crypto space is always showcasing reforms that can keep the brain active in our moments of rest and provide us with the needed financial freedom. This can happen only when we plan strategically and invest appropriately in it during our rainy days.
Finally, it would not be a good idea for someone to quit working actively for any reason other than retirement due to old age, which should typically occur around eighty years, or due to a health condition. Not resting because of being accomplished, but because of old age or a health condition, I reiterate.
My late father, after retiring from active service, continued working with a private firm even in his late seventies. When my siblings wanted to stop him, he warned them that it would be damaging to his health, as he is a very active person. So, while one may be very successful and accomplished in life, retiring from being active in life without some daily routine would be detrimental and damaging to the person's health. More especially, an individual who has been active in the workplace or as an entrepreneur.
