Beans with loaves of bread is a colourful and satisfying combination that balances of protein-rich beans, with soft carbohydrate rich texture of freshly baked bread. The beans often cooked with spices, tomatoes,onions and palm oil together to produce a rich hearty flavor that complements the simplicity of bread. This meal can be enjoyed at anytime of the day making it a versatile option that can be enjoyed at anytime of the day accompanied with cold water or chilled drink, this combination is my favorite Nigerian dish it is probably the only mean that i wouldn't get tired of eating even if it is twice a day.
It is know for it simplicity and nutritional value it is not only delicious but also accessible but the current expense of beans makes it difficult to enjoy this meal for someone like me who wouldn't mind enjoying it twice a day .
My first experience with it?
I first had a taste of this combination when I started to work at a place seven years back although I had eating bread before and I had equally eaten Porridge beans but the taste of the two together felt more delicious when I tried it then for the first time.
It takes quite a lot of time for beans to boil till it is soft but the bread is always available in shops around.
Why is it my favorite?
That's a big question and I can't really give a definite reason why, it is mostly due to the sweet taste of bread that accompanies the delicious taste of beans with every bite that I take and the nutritional qualities of the meal when it is prepared the right way.
Can I cook it?
Yes I can, it is a meal that you can easily make if you've tried it at least once for the experience and if you have the right ingredients to make it, what we are going to prepare is just the beans the baked bread is sold in most shops around me so i can easily access it.
Ingredients and preparation
To prepare the beans we will need essential ingredients like beans, onions, tomatoes, palm oil or vegetable oil depending on which one you like, salt, seasoning cube, crayfish which is optional and baked loaf of bread.
Cooking steps
Begin by washing beans soaking the beans to reduce the cooking time that's if you want to, the cooking process can take an hour or more depending on the type of beans because some types of beans take longer to cook than others.
Prepare the sauce that is a combination of pepper 🌶️, onions, crayfish, seasoning cube and the rest and when the sauce is ready then you can mix simmer that is the prepared sauce and the beans that must have cooked by then after which you can serve it with any size of bread that you can consume together with a chilled water or cold drink.
Nutritional benefits that come from this meal range from the carbohydrate content of the bread, the protein rich beans, fats from the vegetable oil, minerals and vitamins from other contents of the food to make the food a balanced combination of each nutrients.
