[Mary and I]
Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today’s topic is from Hive Student Connect, which says: Friendship. So let’s dive in.
Honestly, school is one of those places where we meet people, aside from social gatherings and other events, who end up becoming a big part of our lives. We go to school to learn, but along the way, we find ourselves connecting with people who make school fun and memorable for us. I still remember the day I first met my first friend, Mary.
It was during my first semester in 100 level. We had just finished that day lectures and were preparing to go home. I was packing all my books and charger inside my bag when a man came into our lecture hall, advertising the handbook he was selling. The handbook was really good, especially for us 100-level students since we were still freshers.
At first, I didn’t want to buy the book because I didn’t have extra money with me, just my transport fare to take me home. But after seeing that a lot of my coursemates were buying it, the urge to buy it increased, even though I had no money. There was no one I could walk up to and ask for help because I didn’t know anyone yet.
While I was still thinking of who to ask for some money till the next day, one of my coursemates who knew Mary (my friend) walked up to her to borrow some money. She told her she didn’t have any except the one that would take her back home. Up to three people went to her, and she told them the same thing. I just don’t know the spirit that pushed me to ask her, but when I did, it was like she had been waiting for me to ask, she lent me the money immediately without giving any excuses.
After lending it to me, she told me not to tell those other people because they might feel hurt or sad, and I told her no problem. She even said she didn’t know why she lent me the money. After buying the handbook, I thanked her and collected her number so I could chat her up later and get her account number. When I got home, I told my brother to send the money, which was #500 to her. After sending it, I messaged her that I had sent it.

Since then, we started chatting casually, but later it became something more, we became close and eventually the best of friends. Through her, I became friends with her two friends, Rose and Paul. Since then, we hang out together, read together, and help each other with class attendance if one of us is late for lectures.
I’m the kind of person who loves socializing with people, and my friends know that about me.

[Christiana and I]
Another way I met one of my friends, Christiana, was during school hours in my 100-level second semester. After our first lecture, we were waiting for the next one. I was standing alone outside the lecture hall corridor because my three friends were late for class that day. That was when Tina came to stand beside me. I had always seen her during lectures, but we only greeted each other and went our separate ways.
I think she overheard me and a guy I became friends with in 200 level talking about how to hide a number if you don’t want someone to know it’s you. After that conversation, the guy left, and she walked up to me, asking if I knew the code for hiding a number. I told her yes, and she said I should tell her because she had been looking for the code because she wanted to use it to prank one of her friends. I told her the code, and we went our separate ways.
The next day, she came to thank me, saying the code worked because her friend didn’t know it was her. Since then, we started talking casually, and before long, we exchanged numbers and became best friends.
I’ll say among my five friends, Tina and Rose are the ones I love the most because they know me better than the rest. And I appreciate that a lot.
One thing I really admire about my friends is that they are supportive and understanding. Anytime I’m not in school, they make sure to call to ask why, help me write my attendance, and even send me notes or bring them to me the next day. They’ve really helped me a lot.
Another thing that strengthens our friendship is how we always help each other academically. Anytime one of us doesn’t understand a course, the others are there to help and explain patiently.
Among my friends, Tina and Rose are the crazy ones, they love frustrating me, and I frustrate them too. You know in friendship, there must always be one or two crazy ones, and that’s them. I cherish all my friendships because whenever I’m in need, they are always ready to show up, just as I would for them.
Even during the holidays, because I’m currently on holiday, we always check up on each other and make sure everyone is doing fine.
In conclusion, I went to school to learn, but school gave me friends who became sisters and brothers to me, friends who turned my school days into fun and unforgettable memories. I’ll always be grateful for that friendship.
This is my entry for the Hive Student Connect Week 11.
