One funny experience I can never forget from my 100 level days happened during our very first week of lectures. After all the stress and endless queues of registration, my friend and I were so excited to finally start attending classes like confirm university students. We dressed up early that morning, carried our brand-new jotters, wore our best outfits and headed straight to the lecture halls, determined not to miss anything.
The moment we got to the building, the population was like a market square, people were rushing in and everyone was struggling to squeeze into one corner or the other. My friend and I fought our way through, and after what felt like a WWE smackdown , we finally secured two seats. We gave each other that victorious “we made it” look and sat down confidently.
The lecturer soon walked in, and immediately the whole place went quiet. He started teaching with so much energy, and I remember looking at my friend like, “Wow, university life no be joke o, see as this man serious!” We even started joting notes with every seriousness in us.
But then, as the lecture went deeper, things weren’t adding up. The man kept mentioning theories, names, and terms that was strange to us. My friend whispered, “Are you understanding anything?” and I just shook my head.
My friend leaned close and whispered, “Since when did ECO 101 sound like this? Did university economics change from demand and supply to theories?” For a moment, we both wondered if maybe secondary school economics was child’s play and university had upgraded it to something else.
Finally, when the lecturer boldly announced “Welcome to PSY 101, Introduction to Psychology”, our jaws dropped. That was when reality set in, we were in the wrong class! Instead of sitting in Economics 101, we had confidently struggled into Psychology.
At that moment, it wasn’t funny at all. We just kept a straight face, pretending like we belonged there until the end. But the moment we stepped out of that hall, we burst into uncontrollable laughter. From that day, we both went to properly check the lecture timetable and master the names of every single hall on campus before entering any class.
Looking back now, I realize that was the true initiation into university life . First its strss from registration, then confusion, struggle, and plenty of laughter.
