RE: Walking Off My Worries, or how a 5km Strolls Heal a Heavy Heart

Great working. Entertaining and touching... Or should I say "moving" with your honesty and humor.
Best of all, the invitation and inspiration to a community conversation.
All my life, for me it's been walking... Writing and other creative endeavors keep me sane.. But also can suck me in too deep sometimes.. Like reading a good book... Then it becomes something where I need friends to say, "love the painting, but have you eaten or stopped to use the bathroom even?"
Walking is fantastic.. Walking alone, with a friend, walking in the rain when it's warm...
I'm starting again recently to walk with a neighbor in the mornings..
What I think I need to do... Thank you so much for asking! Because you are helping me to clarify now, what it is that I need right now...I need to ask my neighbor for permission to walk alone on her land at other times also. I live in the country... The dirt and rock road is not super friendly to walk along, because so much dust flies whenever a car passes... And until we create a clearer path through the woods on our own land.

Thank you for sharing this! And glad I made you consider what you need to do know ;-) Have you been able to ask in the meantime?
Walking does a lot of good indeed! For the body, but certainly also for the soul! Like you said, sometimes walking with others (walked with a neighbour as well last week ;-) ), and sometimes you need to walk alone, to be able to clear your mind, order your thoughts, prioritize breathing again (which sounds like an unearthly thing that it needs prioritizing, and yet, believe it or not...).
Creativity is definitely also a great way to stay sane! For me it is music, and writing, and definitely photography (which I often combine with walking), and in all these things it is the same: if somebody wouldn't grab me by the neck and say "isn't this enough? You need sleep/food/rest/toiletbreaks", I would just go on and on and on :-)

I have the neighbor's permission, yes, but I haven't gone walking on her land alone just yet. I have just begun the past three days, to allow Lovey, the dog of our X person, to be untied all day long. It's been better than I had hoped for so far. It's been difficult and super rewarding to re-educate him and show him that a human can deserve his trust.. But now he follows me everywhere. That's mostly great too.. But the neighbor has two big dogs and I am not so sure they will be buddies.
So.. When I do go walking again, I will put him back on the rope for a little while.. No big deal. He will even let me. I would not let me, if I were him. But for now, I just want to let him enjoy his freedom for the first time in his life.,

Oh boy!!! That's is such a great thing you are doing! Re-establishing trust in this nice dog! The bond between human and other animals is another thing that is greatly undervalued in our society. Investing in that is a good thing!

It's true. He gives me so much. And he ISa nice dog. They say he is "MALO". Or "bad" but he is all love and that is the truth

I've learned that dogs (and many other animals) often mirror who is in front of them... so it may say a lot about the people who say that he is MALO ;-)
