Last two weeks Sunday I told you all about how I sold myself short by not believing I could do something. And it all started when I wasn’t assigned any project by my teammates because they thought I wasn’t capable. Yesterday, I had to work with the same team, and even before I arrived, they had assigned me a project.
Interestingly, I finished it three hours before submission time, and before I realized it, one of the teammates was asking me how I did it. Later during the day, he came to tell me about how I’ve indirectly motivated him to start doing better. He said before I came around, there was nothing to get him going. There were times he had to spend days on a project because he didn’t know how to do it.
Honestly, I didn’t understand all that he was saying, but I only nodded my head and kept saying I was glad he was now motivated. After the conversation, I only realized one thing: the power of your presence. One thing I already know is that everyone’s presence has an effect; it could be bad or good.
There are people who step in the room, and the energy changes from 0 to 100. And others’ presence also changes the energy in a room from 100 to 0. I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced any of these, but I’ve been in a place where someone entered, and in a minute, we were all motivated, encouraged, and did everything that we had to do.
And what this guy was saying felt like that. It felt like my presence for the past two weeks has already made a tremendous difference in his work life, which makes me so happy. The whole point I’m trying to make is that I believe we all have the power to bring light or darkness into people’s lives, workplaces, and others. Which one do you choose? Do you want to be known as the lady whose presence causes annoyance or makes people look down on themselves, or you want to be known as that person whose presence uplifts others? Your choice.
I wanted to go ahead and talk about doing this and that to become that person who radiates good energy in a room. But then, for the very first time, I’ll leave it for everyone to do their individual assessment and reflection. What kind of energy do you give off at the moment? Are you happy with it? If not, then start working towards the kind of energy you want.
