Finnish rally ace Kalle Rovanpera decided to retire from World Rally Championship at the end of this season and to try his luck at circuit racing, especially to come as close as possible to Formula 1 which won't be easy because in rallying you fight against clock, and in circuit racing, you fight against other drivers around you. And that's not easy if you ask me.
But OK, Rovanpera jr decided to change his path and that's his choice. One place at works Toyota team is now empty. And who will be the driver to jump in??
Oliver Solberg did a guest appearance at WRC Rally Estonia and immediately won it overall in Yaris Rally1 machinery (after two days of testing). That's the proof that he can do it.
On the other hand, there is Sami Pajari who did all the events in Yaris Rally1 car and the best place is 4th at Safari Rally Kenya. OK, we know that Solberg already has an experience of Rally1 machinery when he was Hyundai works driver in 2022 but to jump into the new car and immediately win an event, that's something.
That's why I think that Oliver Solberg has more chance of getting that seat over Sami Pajari, at least for a single season. Because there is a chance of losing come "concentration" if things won't go on plan. But both of them are still youngsters and there is a plenty of room for proving.
We will know very soon who's gonna grab that seat...
